In December 1984, high-school teacher Ken Webster, his friend Nic, and girlfriend Debbie uncovered a mysterious message on a borrowed BBC Microcomputer in their Dodleston village home. Thinking it was a prank, they replied, sparking a 16-month exchange of nearly 400 messages. As the dialogue unfolded, they grew convinced the messages were real—sent by someone living in their very house, but in the 1540s!
