Overview: The rise of Islam in recent years has demonstrated that we in America have a handicap when it comes to understanding the relationship between Jesus Christ and the work of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of John makes it clear that in the beginning was the Word and the Word with God and the Word was God. The Gospel of John also makes it clear that the Word became flesh and dwelt among humanity and we saw His glory the only begotten of the Father full of grace and truth.----The first mention of the Holy Spirit in the gospel of John came by the testimony of John the Baptist in John 1. -I myself did not know him, but he who sent me to baptize with water said to me, -He on whom you see the Spirit descend and remain, this is he who baptizes with the Holy Spirit.- -----The Gospel of John describes the impact of the Holy Spirit-s coming upon believers in John 7. -Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, -Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.- Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.-----The Gospel of John also describes the teaching ministry of the Holy Spirit in John 14. ---But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.-----Until John 15-18-27, the Gospel of John merely described what the Jesus did by the Holy Spirit. In John 7, the Gospel of John began teaching about the Holy Spirit-s future ministry. But John 15-18-27 points to the handicap exposed by the rise of Islam in the Western world.
