One way of communicating the central message revealed in Jesus is that God is light. Through this statement John hopes to state that God is perfect Truth and perfect goodness. This has implications for humans who want to receive the life that comes from being in relationship with the God who is light. Just as light excludes darkness, the truth of God excludes any falsehood and the goodness of God excludes moral impurity. How then can anyone enjoy life that comes in communion with God? The answer John gives in this letter is: the death of Jesus Christ.

Florence continues her series on the fruit of the Spirit and considers the spiritual fruit of peace in three dimensions: the upward dimension - peace with God; the inward dimension - peace of God; and the outward dimension - peace towards people.

Beginning a new series on 1 John titled Back to Basics, Vijay looks at 1 Jn 1.1-4. He explains that there is more going on in our faith than we think. The message of Jesus is more than knowing the details of Jesus' life, death and resurrection. It is about coming to know God intimately through Jesus. The proclamation of the message is much more than a simple passing on of information. It is an opportunity for the one who comes in contact with the message to literally encounter God through Jesus.

He reminds us how a commitment to God has to be much more than saying the right things about God. Our deepest commitment is expressed in expressed in how we live, in our actions. He then concludes with a sober challenge that a divided heart leaves a divided legacy. Our hypocrisies are often played out on those we influence and impact, those we love.
