For the Evening Service, Vijay looks 2 Kings 4:1-7. He reminds us that we often don't know how needy and dependent we really are until our foundations are pulled out from under us. But, these sorts of situations can bring us to realise that we all are ultimately dependent on God. When we turn to him, we find ourselves fulfilled with his abundance.

In the second 'Postcard for Plodders', Vijay looks at the letter of Christ to Smyrna (Rev 2.8-11). This letter looks at perseverance from a another angle. Perseverance means hanging on to the faith and values that you know to be true as a follower of Jesus even when it means you have to suffer and die for it.

In the first message of this new series from Isaiah 6, James focuses on the exaltation of God who is the King of Glory and shows how a fresh vision of Him encourages us as we face an uncertain future

Vijay starts a new series, titled Postcards for Plodders based on the 7 Letters in the Book of Revelations. Each of these 7 letters highlight a different aspect of what it means for the church and individuals in it to persevere. The letter to Ephesus highlights the importance of remaining unwavering in our love towards God and the world (and all its inhabitants). This love must inform and generate everything that we do. Sadly, it is possible to do and know all the right things and yet do all of it without love.

To conclude the 24/3 Prayer, Vijay brings our attention to the Lord's Prayer. Expanding on the words of the Lord's Prayer, Vijay highlights three activities involved in prayer. When we pray, we make requests to God: learn about God, ourselves and the world; and commit to a certain course of action. The Lord's Prayer contains 6 petitions, each of which are explored briefly in today's sermon. He then closes the Word challenging us to live prayerfully not just for the 3 days we have designated for prayer as a church, but also for our whole lives.

Fiona remnds us that we have a God who cares about every aspect of our lives

In anticipation of this week's 24/3 prayer, Vijay speaks on the relationship between spiritual drought and prayer. Fleshing out the story of Elijah's prayer for rain in 1 Kings 18, he suggests three things: 1) spiritual drought is the result of idolatry. He notes that compromise is idolatry, as much as a wholehearted devotion to anything other than God. 2) Spiritual abundance is the result of repentance. And repentance is something that God initiates in our life as he woos us with his love. 3) Prayer is when the forgiven and faith-filled people of God lay hold of God's willingness to bless and fill us with his abundance.

Iain continues his studies in Colossians Chapter One, by reminding us that we have been reconciled to God through Christ, who brings us into the very presence of God. Therefore, we are encouraged to move forward into the new year with confidence and purpose and not to drift away.’
