Acts 13 records Paul's first sermon he preached on his first missionary journey. From this text Mike explains GBCK's purpose and approach to preaching. The purpose: to proclaim the finished work of Christ. The approach: to hold up the Law and show that we fail to meet its requirements, then to hold up the Gospel and proclaim how Christ satisfied the righteous requirements of the Law for us.

After an 8-week series in Genesis, we are back to Acts. Mike picks up in Acts 9 with Saul's conversion to Christianity. In this message Mike addresses assumptions about conversion and the gospel that aren't necessarily true. A right understanding of conversion helps us see the power of God's Spirit to open our eyes to the beauty and attractiveness of an otherwise offensive gospel message.

Ryan talks about the life of Joseph and how he was someone who couldn't catch a break in life. Yet, Joseph was elevated to a position where he was able to save his family and perpetuate God's promise to make them into a great nation. However, the life of Joseph isn't a lesson on how to stick it out when life gets tough. Instead, Joseph points to the greater Joseph - Jesus.

Mike talks about Jacob wrestling God and how instead of annihilating Jacob, God seems to lose the fight and spares Jacob's life. Instead of giving a death blow, God gives Jacob life. This is a shadow of Christ taking the death blow for us so we may have new life in Him.
