Luke 12:13-21
Today's gospel is proclaimed by our preacher. Here are some of her notes to accompany her dialogue with our congregation.
``````
I used to hear our text today, “Fool, this very night your
life is being demanded of you,” and it took it as a threat. – a moral
admonition to get back in line.
But friends, that’s not it.
To know, at every moment, that my life is being demanded of
me,
That all can be lost, that nothing is forever,
And that my efforts at security are pointless,
To know all this is actually one of the Gifts of God for the
People of God.
God’s gift, Jesus’ message over and over again, is to tell
us and teach us
That it’s by our woundedness that we find out holiness.
When I die to my own ego, break apart the structures of my
false self,
When I do not cling tightly to my own manufactured sense of
security-
Then I am alive and free and happy and safe.
With this in mind, I bring you an image that I stumbled across
on Facebook
That has grabbed a hold of my attention for these past weeks
I share it with you and I want to talk about it with you.
