Romans 10 indicates three essentials to saving faith: preaching, hearing and sending. Pastor Dave continues our series Onward Together with the message, "Never Beyond Hope" (Romans 10:14-21) "So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ" (Romans 10:17).

Romans 10:9 contains one of the most glorious promises anywhere in scripture, "If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” What does faith in Christ entail and why do so many people fail to turn to him in faith? In Romans chapter 10, Paul helps us answer these questions, while inviting each of us to repent of our self-sufficiency and to receive a righteousness based on faith.

On this Easter Sunday, we celebrate the risen Lord – defender and friend to all who receive him, who believe in his name, who are welcomed into his family. 

Palm Sunday marks Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem, six days before he was crucified. The crowd’s acclamation of Jesus with palm waving was a revolutionary event, signaling the purpose for which he came, creating a pattern of living for his followers and proclaiming great hope for the world.

In Romans chapter 9, Paul calls us to consider God’s sovereign purposes in history and the unique role that ethnic Israel plays in his plans both now and into the future. On Sunday, we will consider the merciful incorporation of Gentiles into the church of Jesus Christ and God’s ongoing commitment to Israel, in order to better understand our own unique place in God’s story. Along the way we will see how a biblical view of God’s sovereignty gives us greater security, humility, and compassion, while pushing us out in mission to the world. 

God assures us of his love by applying Jesus’s past to our present, and his presence to our suffering. “He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? ... For I am sure that neither death nor life ... will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Rom. 8:32, 38-39). 

In Romans 8:18-30, the apostle Paul focuses on the hope and glory believers have in Christ despite present sufferings. “For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies." (Romans 8:22-23).

The new way of the Spirit is to be born again and accepted into God’s family. “For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, "Abba! Father!" The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God." (Romans 8:14-16). 

"There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. "For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation." (Romans 5:10-11)
