In Psalm 111, the Psalmist encourages his readers by recalling God’s covenantal commitment to His promises.

Neutrality in our relationship to Jesus is not an option. We either step forward or back in our relationship to him. Steps forward look like trusting Jesus enough to ask him hard questions about why life is the way life is; joining him in doing God's work; going where he sends us, just because he says so; a growing openness to changing our view of him; and worshiping him as he shows himself to be. Steps back look like assessing Jesus through the grid of our preconceptions;  disbelieving evidence of his work; disassociating from him because of the significant cost; disassociating from people who can bear witness to Jesus as the light; doubling down on unbelief; and terminal unbelief.

Psalm 109 follows King David's faith journey as he struggles with anger and fear. Can I trust God to save me when I am accused and slandered by others? Do I trust in God's vindication, or do I take vengeance?

The people of God can be confident that Jesus Christ has won the victory against all their enemies, giving peace in the present and great hope for the future.

Psalm 107 is the answer to Psalm 106's cry for help and rescue.
