This week we wrap up our five characteristics of a Jesus follower portion of the Red Letter Challenge. With one more message to go in the series, this week it's about GOING. In our lives as followers of Jesus we're called to be generous. We're called to follow God and his example in all areas of life, even and perhaps especially on what we hold as valuable and dear to our hearts. Today's message is one of giving and generosity and how tightly we hold the material things in our lives. There is no such thing as a greedy Christian.

As we journey through our Red Letter Challenge Series, we build on what's come in the previous weeks. We started with Being and learned that our doing must flow from our being. Then we met up with the idea of Forgiving and how we can only give what we've first received. This week we learned about Serving. And our key phrase this week is that Jesus touches before he teaches.

When Jesus washed the disciples' feet, he wasn't telling us to remove people's socks and wash their toes. He was telling us to do the ordinary and normal tasks that most people overlook. This is our act of service. How will you serve this week? Perhaps a better question is, who will you serve this week?

You can only give what you have first received. This week we look at what it means to be forgiven and how that forgiveness compels us to forgive others. Listen as Pastor Derrick explains how important knowing who Jesus is to our understanding of forgiveness.

This week we dive deep into BEING in Christ. What does it look like to BE in Christ? It means we don't have to do anything. BEING in Christ means that we come to him with burdens, joys, concerns, celebrations. It means that we let his accomplished work be the starting point for our rest. How will you BE with Christ this week?

We like either or scenarios. That way we don't get wrapped up in too much detail! We don't like the decision making process but we sure do enjoy the lesser workload that comes from being OR people instead of AND people! This week we look at a passage from the Bible that shows how we should be AND people. Listen as Pastor Derrick shares the difference and shows what happens when we live the AND kind of life!

When we face our troubles and trials we tend to focus on the trials. The problems we face tend to be all we see. But when we focus on the problem we fail to see the power of God. Ever been replaced? Ever been shoved to the back of a line? We hear in the bible that we should never choose the place of honor but let that place be given to us. In a life willed with say one thing do another mentality it's hard to find someone with real integrity. This week we looked at the final piece of Colossians. In the book of Colossians, Paul spends time discussing what it looks like to be a follower of Jesus. Admittedly this can be a bit abstract and hard to put into practice, so he spends these verses demonstrating what this looks like in the context of very specific relationships and stations in life.
