As he ran from Saul, David was sustained by God in the midst of his suffering.

Jesus not only rescues us by His grace, but also calls us to be His voice and His hands to a needy world.

Living in light of Jesus' words: "I am the vine and you are the branches."

When David flees to Jonathan, he goes not simply to a friend, but to his partner in covenant. We should do the very same with the Son of David, Jesus Christ!

Even though our suffering only seems to work against our "good", the God who reigns will work all things for our "good" if our hope is in Jesus.

When the King of the universe ransoms you, your rescue is secure, from beginning to end.

God does not sit on His throne reacting to human choices, hoping he can steer things in the right direction. No, He accomplishes His will perfectly from His throne... in all things.

David's three episodes of escape in I Samuel 19:8-24 remind us that, through Jesus Christ, we can exclaim with David, "The Lord is...my shield."

Jonathan's intercession on behalf of the threatened David is a wonderful reminder of our need for an intercessor, and to be intercessors.

Though Saul's "Get Him Wed to Get Him Dead" strategy failed, it didn't fail because of David's greatness and Saul ineptness, but because God "was with" David.
