John reports to us the story of a royal official whose circumstances have focused him on what is important – his son is dying and needs Jesus. This provides the occasion for a miracle and for the man to have faith in the Savior.

The effect that Jesus has on people is that He meets them, and they are changed forever. We see what that change looks like, as the Samaritan woman cannot wait to tell others about Jesus.

John 4:16-26 contains perhaps the lengthiest statement from our Lord about worship. He said that the Father is the One who is seeking worshippers; that worship must be in spirit; and that worship must be in truth.

Jesus comes to a well in the middle of a hot day and meets a Samaritan woman. As He so often does, Jesus initiates the conversation and brings spiritual things to bear, even when the woman finds it hard to understand.
