Jesus was lifted up on the cross, as the bronze serpent was lifted up on a pole, so that all who look on him may be saved. In Jesus, judgment leads to justification.

Abraham was tested by God to sacrifice the life of his own son, Isaac, on Mount Moriah but the angel of the Lord stopped him from doing so. The life of God's own Son was sacrificed for us on Mount Calvary.

Everything is not as it should be.

This Lent, look to Jesus, who was and is strong for you.

The cross of ashes we wear on Ash Wednesday reminds us that in Jesus our sackcloth and ashes give way to the robe of His own righteousness that He freely gives to all who trust in Him.

Has God forgotten me/them/us?

Jesus' power and authority over evil is revealed as He casts out an unclean spirit from a man. The unclean spirits have no choice but to obey Jesus. Because of all that God in Christ has done for us, we also are called to obey, but with joy and thanksgiving.
