Pentecost was a watershed moment in the history of Christ’s church as the Holy Spirit came to indwell each of God’s people, thus ful lling God’s promise of a New Covenant. The result is that all Christians have the Spirit of God dwelling in them and empowering them to live for Christ.

Jesus says and demonstrates that He is the “resurrection and the life.” This truth assures us that all who have trusted in Christ will be raised to a glorious eternity with God.

While the crowds celebrate Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday, they shout “crucify” on Good Friday, thus demonstrating the self-serving false discipleship of the multitudes. We, on the other hand, must be crystal clear who Jesus really is and follow him unconditionally.

Noah, who serves as a mediating priest, offers a sacrifice resulting in God’s covenant never again to destroy the earth through flood. Jesus, the greater than Noah, who serves as our Great High Priest, offers the perfect sacrifice of Himself, resulting in the forgiveness of all of our sin and God’s ultimate act salvation through judgment and eternal peace with God.

While God judges the entire world due to the depravity of all who inhabit it, His amazing grace is on display as He saves the “seed of the woman,” thus preserving the promise of the gospel by saving Noah and his family from the flood.

God’s grace is the only hope for sinful mankind.

Jesus teaches us to have realistic expectations of what life and ministry looks like in His “inaugurated Kingdom.” Such expectations management is helpful for our encouragement and even perseverance as we serve Him in the midst of great opposition.

In this chapter we see the birth of Adam and Eve’s first two sons with the firstborn killing the second born and the ungodly line of Cain culminating in the polygamist Lamech, who boasts of his killing. While the “seed of the woman” (who would one day crush the head of the seed of the serpent) appears to be dead, God provides a resurrection of the line with the birth of Seth and men begin to call upon the name of Yahweh.

Adam & Eve choose to rebel against God’s revealed will for their lives, thus bringing about terrible consequences for all of creation. While the effects of the fall are terrible, God’s amazing grace is on display as He promises that one from the line of the woman would one day defeat the serpent who tempted them.
