The Old Testament is filled with anticipation of a coming Son and an eternal King, who will establish a Kingdom that will never end. The birth of Jesus Christ is the arrival of that Son and King and is met with two very different responses, one of hatred and one of worship!

Jesus Christ is the fulfillment of the Old Testament prophecies that promised an eternal King and an eternal Kingdom where peace will reign forever and ever. As believers in Christ, we are commissioned by the one true eternal King to be ambassadors of peace and reconciliation!

God's people, who were rescued from exile and restored to the Promised Land, have fallen again into sin, and the only remedy is confession and repentance. Psalm 127 brings us three topics popular in every culture: ambition, success, and legacy. We hear timeless truth as we encounter this psalm as a proverb, but in seeing Christ in this psalm, we value the eternal through a transformed view of ambition, success, and legacy.

Adversaries and opposition to the people of God and the work of God should not be a surprise, but expected. Jesus said, “If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.” Therefore, let us look to Christ, the One who overcame death and the devil and empowers us to be more than conquerors!

The Israelites rebuild the altar and sacrifice burnt offerings to make atonement for sin; however, it’s not enough. The blood of bulls and goats accomplishes nothing. Instead, they point forward to the one true Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the word. He alone is worthy of our worship!

God initiates again in a second exodus, liberating His people out of their Babylonian captivity and leading them back to the Promised Land. These events point forward to an even greater exodus in the Lord Jesus, when unbelievers are liberated from their sin and enabled to live for God’s glory.
