Since this will be our 247th anniversary of the founding of our nation. . .the signing of the Declaration of Independence, I want to spend some time sharing the Christian influences on our nation’s founding.

There is a great deal of discussion today regarding the influence of the Christian faith on our nation's founding.

Our current secular society despises any such connection. When our Christian founding is noted, they almost foam at the mouth like an animal with rabies.

Today, we are being assaulted from every direction concerning the Christian heritage of our nation.

"Little By Little - Unintentional Drifting!"

Here are several thoughts to consider. . .

Guard your spiritual life:

Take intentional steps to guard your spiritual life against drifting or compromise. Prioritize spiritual disciplines such as prayer, Bible study, fellowship, and worship. Stay vigilant against worldly influences and actively resist conforming to societal norms that contradict God’s Word. Keep yourself accountable and seek the support and guidance of a Christian community.

Recognize the subtle signs of drifting:

Be aware of the subtle signs that indicate you may be drifting or compromising within your Christian life. Regularly examine your heart and actions in light of Scripture. Watch out for neglecting spiritual disciplines, allowing sin to take hold, and distancing yourself from the accountability and fellowship of other believers. Catching these signs early can help you make necessary  adjustments and realign yourself with God’s purposes.

Pursue a renewed commitment to Christ:

If you find yourself in a position of having drifted or compromised, take steps to renew your commitment to Christ. Confess any areas of compromise or sin, seeking God’s forgiveness and grace. Reengage with spiritual disciplines, seeking intimacy with God and a deepening of your relationship with Him. Embrace accountability and community, surrounding yourself with fellow believers who will support, encourage, and challenge you in your walk of faith.

"Overcoming Cultural Christianity!"

Over time, the meaning of certain words in our cultural and society have been redefined. . .even to the point of having no meaning.

Unfortunately, the term Christian is fast becoming one of those words.

We would define the word Christian as. . .a person who has put faith and trust in the person and work of Jesus Christ and who now lives in obedience to God’s Word.

However, much of the world defines the word “Christian” as. . .going to church occasionally or simply believing in God.

Even many churches are complicit in this cultural overthrow of true faith by altering the gospel and its demands to make it more appealing to a wider audience.

Andrew McKinney, in his book Cultural Christianity: The Disaster of Abandoning the Gospel, defines cultural Christianity as. . .

A false form of Christianity fabricated by Satan and forwarded by a relative gospel that serves man’s preferences and Satan’s damning purposes rather than the redemptive purposes of God.

The conversion of Saul, who became the Apostle Paul, serves as a powerful reminder that salvation is not just a transaction but a life-altering encounter with the living God. Just as Paul experienced a radical transformation on the road to Damascus, we, too are called to surrender our lives to Christ and allow His grace to bring about a profound change within us. Our salvation is meant to transform us from the inside out, shaping our character, desires, and actions to align with God’s will.

The story of Paul’s conversion highlights the truth that we are not only saved by God’s grace but also saved for service in His Kingdom. Each of us has a unique role in God’s redemptive work, equipped with spiritual gifts and empowered by the Holy Spirit. We are called to be ambassadors of Christ, sharing the message of reconciliation and extending His love to those around us. Our salvation is not meant to be a private experience but a catalyst for serving others and bringing glory to God.

The conversion of Saul demonstrates the boundless nature of God’s grace. Despite Saul’s history of persecuting the early Christians, God pursued him with relentless love and transformed him into one of the most influential figures in Christian history. This reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s grace. It challenges us to extend grace and forgiveness to others, recognizing that God can use even the most unlikely individuals for His purposes. God’s grace has the power to redeem, restore, and radically change lives.

In a world filled with countless paths, philosophies, and ideologies, losing our sense of direction and purpose can be easy. But Jesus reminds us that He is the ultimate Way. He is not merely one option among many but the only true path that leads to eternal life. Through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, we find salvation, forgiveness, and a restored relationship with our Heavenly Father. Let us embrace Him as our guide, surrendering our lives to His lordship and following Him faithfully each day.

Amidst the chaos and brokenness of our human existence, Jesus offers us abundant life. He is the source of true joy, peace, and fulfillment. Through His death on the cross and resurrection from the grave, He conquered sin and death, offering us eternal life in Him. In our pursuit of meaning and purpose, let us not be captivated by temporary pleasures or the pursuit of worldly success. Instead, let us fix our eyes on Jesus, who gives us life in all its fullness, both now and for all eternity.

"Charged With A Mission!"

The ascension of Jesus and the commissioning of His disciples in Acts 1:8 remind us of our calling as believers to participate actively in the Great Commission.

We are called to be witnesses of Jesus, sharing the message of salvation and living out our faith with authenticity and love. Let us embrace this mission, recognizing that everyone has a role to play in fulfilling the Great Commission in our own Jerusalem, our communities, and to the ends of the earth.

The promise of the Holy Spirit in Acts 1:8 assures us that we are not alone in fulfilling our mission. The Holy Spirit empowers us, guides us, and enables us to be effective witnesses for Christ. As we rely on the Holy Spirit, we can overcome obstacles, fear, and doubt, knowing that God’s power is at work within us.

Let us cultivate a deep relationship with the Holy Spirit, seeking His guidance and allowing Him to work through us to impact lives and advance the Kingdom of God.

Start Locally, Impact Globally: While the call to reach the nations is vital, it is essential not to neglect the spiritual needs of our communities and nation. The prevalence of pagan beliefs and practices should remind us of the urgency to prioritize local evangelism.

By reaching our own Jerusalem, we can address the spiritual condition of our communities, meet people where they are, and impact future generations. Through faithful witness and discipleship within our nation, we can preserve the spiritual heritage and influence positive change that extends to the ends of the earth.

These takeaways emphasize our role as witnesses of Jesus, the power of the Holy Spirit in fulfilling our mission, and the importance of starting locally while having a global impact. Let us carry these truths with us, stepping forward with boldness, compassion, and a heart to make disciples as we seek to fulfill Acts 1:8 in our lives and ministries.

Understanding the culture and worldview of those around us is essential to effective evangelism:

To share the gospel message effectively, we must take the time to understand the culture and worldview of those around us. This involves listening, learning, and seeking to understand their beliefs, values, and experiences.

The gospel message is both simple and profound:

The gospel's message is simple: it offers salvation through faith in Jesus Christ. However, it is also profound because it offers a transformative new way of life and a deep, personal relationship with God.

Sharing the gospel message may involve facing opposition and ridicule:

Just as Paul faced opposition and ridicule for sharing the gospel message with the Athenians, we may also face resistance when we share the message of Christ with others. However, we are called to remain faithful and bold in our witness, trusting that the Holy Spirit will work in the hearts of those who hear the message.

We are called to be faithful witnesses to the truth of the gospel:

As Christians, we are called to witness the truth of the gospel message, sharing it with those around us in a respectful and compassionate way. We are called to live out our faith in obedience to God’s Word, trusting in the power of the Holy Spirit to transform lives and bring people into a deeper relationship with Christ.

May we continue to hold fast to the truth of God’s word and live holy lives as we eagerly await the return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
