SEX ARCHIE

We are one week from a new season of Riverdale, but more importantly, it has been 20 years since the theatrical release of Josie and the Pussycats. A hyper-color satirical farce about pop music and consumerism, Josie and the Pussycats has an uncanny ability to predict the future while being inextricable from its present. This is how you sound smart when talking about a Tara Reid vehicle.

Before the new season begins, we're going back to the comic series that started it all. The career of Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa as an executive at Archie Comics, and demand for the Riverdale gang in dark genre fiction, both began with a zombie story published in 2013. Showcasing a respect for the characters and who they could be, a masterful control of the medium for pacing and tension, and a fearlessness for breaking taboos, Afterlife with Archie shows why people were excited for Riverdale, and exhibits what the show can do at its best.

What happens when TV's top teens incorporate the music of a classic cult musical into their lives? We may never know. I'm not sure this counts as "integrating". We still <3 you Kevin.

We also run through each song and how Riverdale might use them, and also go over the promotional material for the episode.

Look we really like Hedwig, okay? We're excited.

It's spreading. There are now two Archie COmics-inspired shows on the CW in primetime, and today we're talking about the second. Three young dreamers live together in the big city trying to make it big, while genre tropes try to hold them back. Can proper use of Josie McCoy carry an entire program?

It's good to have a friend like Betty, who knows exactly how to hide a body so it never gets found, can arrange a whole town's movements to avoid suspicion, and can swap fake evidence into FBI custody no problem. She's a role model!
