Summary:

This week on Sexonomic we take a deep dive into the modern reality of living with HIV in 2023 and look back at just how far developments have progressed from the 1980s. I'm honoured to be joined by Eugene Lynch who runs the Positive Voices programme on behalf on the Terrence Higgins Trust. A charity named after one of the first people known to die of an AIDS-related illness in the United Kingdom.

One of the biggest take aways is the 2030 goal the organisation have to eliminate the virus. But the biggest obstacle for that goal is not medicine or treatment related, but rather lingering social stigma and its chokehold on preventing people from testing and treatment in the name of shame which is absolutely wrong and counter productive on every level.

Eugene shares his personal story and how we can all better take action in the fight to eliminate HIV and break the stigma around sexual health and testing. Because it all sounds very possible and achievable!

Heidi sits down with Dr. Nadine Macaluso, a psychotherapist who specialises in helping women escape trauma bonds and abusive relationships. She is also the author of Run Like Hell and has gained significant traction on Tik Tok. But you might also know her as the ex-wife of Jordan Belfort — the infamously corrupt stock broker Wolf of Wall Street.

Nadine opens up about the difficulty of part of her story being immortalised in a book, then a half a billion Hollywood blockbuster where her character was portrayed by Margot Robbie. She also shares her account of the chaos and offers advice for women on spotting psychopathy as well as healing from it.
