In my personal quest to interview the experts in the discussion on healthy ageing and longevity, catching up with David and breaking down how he lives a vibrant and engaged life (you'll have to listen to the episode to find out his age), was an inspirational moment. Chapter 6 and Chapter 7 from My Menopause Memoir discuss how the changes in hormones can increase joint pain and muscle tightness. If these are symptoms for you, listen in to how you might be able to manage them.
You can find the book on Amazon.com or on the Sexy Ageing Website
One of the very first perimenopause symptoms I experienced was the inability to digest and process food groups that I had been perfectly OK with before. I was experiencing bloating and uncomfortable stomach cramps throughout the day. My joints started to swell and my skin was itchy and red. My research led me to understand that I was ingesting foods that were causing inflammation and this was heightened by a change in my hormones.
Enter Marissa Parry and her wonderful plant based eating plan that saved my life during the stress of a pandemic and in the midst of my menopause transition. There is some real merit to considering a plant based eating method - tune in to Marissa and she helps to explain the rationale around having more plants in your meals.

In Chapter 3 and 4 of My Menopause Memoir, I share about the dreaded "hot flashes/flushes" and "night sweats" that are commonly associated with menopause. 75% of women will experience these symptoms in perimenopause and menopause.
The chapters cover my personal experience as well as the wonderful Kim Edwards who shares her story. I explain what is happening to your body to cause the symptoms and then what you can do to help manage them.
Thanks to Dr Samantha Newman, FemaleGP for the updates on recommended supplements as well as medical support.

Marlon Woods - psychologist, DEI professional, and an international master trainer and ambassador for Les Mills International.
In Marlon’s background as a personal trainer, Marlon was training women who were transitioning into the perimenopause stage of life. Without knowing anything about the end of the reproductive cycle for women and how this impacted on their physical and mental health, Marlon dived into personal research, which he says “wasn’t easy!” to figure out how best he could help his clients.
As a former personal trainer, this episode really struck a chord with me. I fequently teared up during the interview (check out the YOUTUBE version) thinking back to my years as a PT and how I was training midlife women and how they weren’t able to shift the extra 5-10kg that just showed up overnight. They were the hardest working clients in the room, never missed a session, ate everything I told them to eat. They were fit and strong and yet the weight hung around and they were taking longer to recover from the training sessions - I knew nothing. And for that I can’t applaud Marlon enough for his foresight and tenacity to self study and help his midlife female clients. The world needs more Marlons!

Off the back of Chapter 1 - Sleep Challenges, it's natural to feel like you've smacked into a wall, been run over by a bus and wishing that the day would speed up so you could jump back into bed. Fatigue - that dragging sensation that you are living your life in a funnel.
