Mel Tempest is a fitness business influencer or in my opinion, a woman who influences. Her belief and tenacity to leave the fitness industry better than she found it is the key driver to her daily life. She also lives with a brain tumour and there is something about that situation that can either make you shut down and hide away or get after your goals. Mel is the goal-getter. In this episode we discuss
- the changes that we have noticed to the fitness industry two years after a pandemic
- what it's like to live with a brain tumour every day
- tips on mastering midlife
- and delivering on your purpose every day.
I wrote a book - it took 9 months - just like growing a baby. And I was also filled with anxiety through the unknown of the publishing process and the fact that I lay bare so many of the emotions I had while tacking 29 perimenpause symptoms.
It breaks my heart that women can't access the support and information they need to navigate the menopause stage of life. And so having Dr Samantha Newman as my guest for this special International Women's Day episode was brilliant. There have been so many positive steps taken for equality for women but healthcare is still a long way behind. The fact that women DON'T know about perimenopause until they are in it, baffles me! Or that GP's and health providers aren't always able to provide the correct information for women who need help to understand this normal (but seriously messy) phase of life.
In this episode, our goal is to help women prepare for their 15-min consult with their GP when it comes to discussing their perimenopause symptoms.
We also discuss:
- the stages of the reproductive cycle and stages of menopause.
- exercise and the menstrual cycle
- HRT vs breast cancer debate
- the road forward for women's healthcare in New Zealand and beyond
