Today in History:The twelve spies returned from Canaan (see Numbers 13:25–33). Ten spies gave a bad report about the Land, and persuaded the people to not go into it. In the year 67 CE, civil war broke out in Jerusalem, leading to its destruction. Shabbat Chazon (Sabbath of Vision) is the Sabbath just before the Fast of Av. It is the “saddest” Sabbath of the year. Its name comes from the Haftarah in Isaiah 1. “The vision [chazon] of Isaiah the son of Amoz concerning Judah and Jerusalem.”
