Hunter takes stock of the situation and makes a plan. With no hope of surviving the rescue, he arms himself and says his goodbyes.

Hunter James gets a call from Doris Poole at Joey's Diner and meets with Mrs. Fischer and her attorney. Later Hunter has a confrontation with the Uber driver Able Thomas. Having a Reuben at the Port of Call Hunter starts to put it all together.

Hunter James stops in at Le Cafe for some coffee and encounters a young almost Radiologist with some information. Later Hunter meets Mrs. Fischer at a dog park, ending his investigation of her not so unfaithful husband.

Hunter meets with Casas at Joey’s to discuss Hunter’s new relationship with the boss that hired both of them. Hunter then goes to the coffee shop to talk with Rachel, the coffee shop manager, about what she saw.  What Rachel saw changed Hunter’s entire perspective of the case. 

Only trying to get some sleep after being savagely beaten by a professional boxer, Hunter is awakened at 2:00 am by someone else pounding on his door. Upon opening the door, he finds he is “invited” to immediately talk to the boss of the young man sent to pick him up.

Hunter makes his way home and into bed after being savagely beaten by an expert.   He manages to fall asleep despite his pain, only to be awakened by his two favorite police officers, Wes Bennett and Jaydee Montalbo.  

Hunter is ambushed by Dover and Crowley while waiting for the manager of the coffee shop to return.  Dover warns Hunter to stop investigating or else before telling Crowley to "mess him up." Hunter comes to in a dumpster and makes his way home with a promise to return the favor to Dover and Crowley.

Hunter continues his investigation of the carjacking site by pretending he is considering the mall as a location for an office but is concerned with crime in the area.  After being forced by a less than helpful barista to order coffee before Hunter can get his questions answered, Hunter discovers he likes chicory.  He just doesn't like the name of the coffee.

Hunter, driven by the attack on his friend, begins an investigation of the alleyway carjacking site without real success. Hunter explores the scene and talks with people at the roofing company and free clinic. When Hunter goes to the hospital to visit Wings, Hunter learns the importance of the flyer found in Wings' hand.

Hunter James checks out the bar that Mrs. Fischer followed her husband to the night before, then asked questions about the carjacking at the mini-mall that Wings had been watching for him.
