  • Dr. Oz takes the COVID-19 Vaccine, Addresses Public Hesitation against it

Dr. Oz made his first appearance on the big show in 2021 and we had a lot to talk about!

He told us he received the Pfizer version of the COVID-19 vaccine last week and says he feels great.

“I got my shot last Monday” Dr. Oz says, “I had no problem at all!”

And while he was happy with his reaction, he did some further investigation. “Most of my colleagues at Columbia had arm soreness, one guy had a slight fever” he says.

As for the 2nd shot, Dr. Oz says “most of my colleagues had a little fever for a few hours and that’s about it. Nothing significant.”

We asked Dr. Oz to give advice to anyone hesitant to inject the vaccine, and he was matter of fact about what you should do.

“People can justifiably say we don’t know what’s going to happen a year or five from now” he says, “so draw a line in the sand, what would it take for you to feel comfortable taking the vaccine? Because the side effects of taking it outweigh the loss of life.”

Dr. Oz has launched “System 21” - A month-long wellness plan to kick off 2021, combining intermittent fasting with aspects of the Mediterranean diet.

“Hugh Jackman taught me how to do it” he says, “He was doing it for his movies, and he learned it from the bodybuilders!”

Catch an all-new episode of “The Dr. Oz Show” today at 1PM on FOX 5 & check out OzTube, Dr. Oz’s new digital video platform where you can find the System 21 wellness program, highlights from his show and exclusive

  • The Big Show Reflects On The Life And Career Of Alex Trebek

January 8th, 2021 is a very sad day for TV watchers, in particular those who have been loyal to the game show Jeopardy for many years.

It’s the final time we will see a new episode of Jeopardy hosted by the great Alex Trebek. Alex passed away due to complications from pancreatic cancer at the age of 80 on November 8th, 2020.

Alex began hosting Jeopardy in 1984 and he's been a constant in our lives and our TV's, but his passing will end that era.

Big show celebrity correspondent Brad Blanks talked to Jeopardy's all-time money winner Brad Rutter ($4.68 million in winnings) about his time with Alex, and he says old wounds will open when he watches the final episode.

Our game show expert Jason Block, who competed on Jeopardy, was brought to tears when speaking to us about the impact Alex has had on his life.

We asked CBS-FM listeners to leave a goodbye message for Alex so we could celebrate his legacy together. Hundreds of fans left heartfelt messages of love, admiration and sadness.

Big Show listener Wendy's message read: "My Dad was a Jeopardy freak. He was good enough to win against most contestants. He wanted to go on the show when he retired, but instead had a long battle with colon cancer. I am sure that he is in line to meet Alex Trebek in heaven.  Whenever I watched Jeopardy, I felt close to my Dad because of Alex. I kind of feel like I am losing him again now that Alex will not be a part of my life. Godspeed Alex Trebek."

Alex Trebek's final show as Jeopardy host airs at 7pm on ABC.

  • Mark Rivera On Paul McCartney's Surprise Appearance At Ringo Starr's 70th Birthday Concert

Billy Joel's main sax man Mark Rivera has become a very good friend of the big show over the years, and one story he’s told us just needs to be re-told because it’s so great!

Mark was the band leader for Ringo Starr’s All-Star Band back in 2010. Ringo was turning 70 that year and a big 70th birthday concert was scheduled for Radio City Music Hall!

After a performance by Ringo's All Starr Band, Ringo was joined on stage by Yoko Ono, Joe Walsh, Jeff Lynne, Foreigner's Mick Jones and AC/DCs Brian Johnson for a rendition of the Beatles' "with a little help from my friends".

Just when it looked like the show was over, Paul Mccartney’s trademark Hofner bass was put on the stage and the fans went nuts!

Ringo’s band came back on stage, including band leader Mark Rivera and someone took the bass back stage…

A couple minutes later, Paul came on stage with the bass and they performed "Birthday" with Ringo on drums!

And there’s so much more to this story! Mark tells us about how the surprise was executed, rehearsals with Paul and so much more!

YOU CAN STILL CALL 914-831-2424 or text BCHKIDS To 76278 To Make A Tax Deductable Donation Of Any Amount! We will keep the donation lines open until December 31st!

We also spoke to some amazing people this morning, from long-time donors to parents of former and current Blythedale patients, their stories are powerful and should be heard!

Here's the list of wonderful people we spoke to this morning:

Michael Brennan - works at Loeb Enterprises and was born & Raised in the Bronx

Michael began his relationship with Blythedale about four years ago when he started his fundraiser “Donate the Dome” where he would shave his head for charity and often works the phone banks for the big show holiday spectacular!

Nancy Reyer is from East Patchogue, Long Island.  Nancy’s teenaged son Michael was a patient at Blythedale after an accident with a gel candle resulted in serious burns and brain damage.

He spent 18 months at Blythedale’s Traumatic Brain Injury Unit, receiving daily physical therapy and using iPads and other assistive technology to help stimulate neurotransmissions in his brain.

Michael passed away in June of 2019, but Nancy is incredibly grateful for the care that he received at Blythedale and keeps in touch with the doctors and staff.

    Michael was Nancy’s only child.

Paul Sohigian is a partner at BNC Insurance Agency and lives in Pleasantville, NY

Paul and his company BNC Insurance Agency have collaborated with Blythedale Children's Hospital as their title sponsor of their annual Fall Golf Classic for Blythedale.

Paul participates in many Blythedale fundraisers and volunteers each year to operate the phones during the Big Show Holiday Spectacular!

Jim and Patty McVeigh live in Tarrytown and have a 3-year-old daughter Gia.

At birth, Gia suffered a “fetal maternal hemorrhage,” a condition where a significant portion of the baby’s blood is transferred to the mother during delivery.

She was non-responsive and required three immediate blood transfusions.

Gia was born at another medical facility before being transferred to Blythedale. A few days after Gia was born, Jim & Patty were told by the doctors that Gia had a 0% chance of survival, to take her off life support, plan a funeral & have her sister say goodbye.

Once it was determined that Gia had rebounded, four doctors at this other medical facility said that they believed “only her brain stem was functioning and she would have no cognitive function for the rest of her life”.

Once her vital signs improved enough, she was transferred to Blythedale where she received comprehensive care from an incredible team!

By the time they arrived at Blythedale, Dr. Davidson said to them, “I was expecting much worse!”

Gia thrived at Blythedale and is living at home. The McVeighs are so grateful for the care Gia and the entire family received and continue to receive from Blythedale.

Gene Ferrara is president of JMA Consultants. He lives in Edgewater, New Jersey.

Gene’s great uncle was one of the founding doctors at Blythedale, so it’s his mission to continue helping.

Gene has donated or been involved with the Big Show Holiday Spectacular for 27 years!

Gene reaches out to colleagues, friends and business ass ...
