She also tells us a bit about her life as a Social Worker - what her mission is, the struggles she faces, and how she manages such an emotionally heavy job.

This is the first conversation of many for the mental health project on this show. The project is aimed at highlighting the importance of education and awareness of all realms of mental health. My goal is to remove the stigma surrounding mental illness and normalize it by sharing stories. The first story is David's - he has suffered from depression his entire life and is out here battling it daily. On this episode he shares how he realized he was depressed, what he does to manage it, and how important human connection is. David also volunteers at a mental health facility answering phones and helping people talk through their own mental health issues.

Meet my new friend Eric - a retired Geologist from Texas. We talk about the Red Tide in Florida, wild stories from his Geology days, his experience with Central American refugees in the 90's, he helps me identify a few rocks I brought back from the Andes, and the pros and cons of living in Lima.

It's been a year since Hurricane Maria destroyed Puerto Rico and somehow...the President continues to destroy it every day. I also talk about the tragic and outrageous murder of Botham Jean, how to take care of your mental health in dark times, how much I love watching oyster shucking videos online, and a few questions for the listeners. Some crying ensues. This one's a bit heavy.
