Need some inspiration for how to teach narrative writing? Today's episode is an invitation into an actual, real lesson with myself and my online second grade class as we create a tree map plan of a fiction story.
Teaching writing can be incredibly difficult to figure out because a typical classroom has many, many different levels of abilities. If writing just isn't your thing well, then it can seem pretty overwhelming.
During this lesson we have completed a personal narrative unit and are at the beginning of our fictional narrative unit. Students have done work on listening to various read alouds and finding the problem and solutions in those stories. We have explored the importance of describing characters and adding dialogue.
Today's fictional narrative lesson explores how to plan a fiction story focused on a problem and the solution to that problem. I don't want students to just write a two sentence story with only the problem and the solution but I want them to add details with a series of events before a solution is found.
