Through the Realm of Light & Shadow - Session Five, Part Two

After the team recovers from their last challenging battle, they set off to find a new safe place to rest for the night.

But as they gather for a moment of respite, will the pride of two team members prove to be their greatest challenge yet?

All this and more in our next Role-Play adventure!

"Through the Realm of Light and Shadow" is an original role-play adventure based in the Lord of the Rings setting.  Check out the original video version here:

https://youtu.be/qJDZ1OzfgF0

Journey with us and hopefully even be inspired in your own life and faith as you see our team strive to overcome challenges.

Special Note:  Players usually attempt to role-play how they believe their character would act in various situations.  We may not always agree with those responses or actions in real life.

This adventure features laughter and fun banter between the players, however, it also depicts battles and overcoming some challenging situations.  So like the Lords of the Rings movies, we recommend this tale be enjoyed by teenagers and older.

To bring our adventure to life we are using the "Adventures in Middle Earth" core books by Cubicle 7, which is based on the 5e ruleset from D&D.  Find out more about those resources here:

In this special segment, we interview the creator of the game "Commissioned" by Chara Games.  It is an incredibly fun and at times challenging game that takes an engaging look at early church history.

Patrick Lysaght and his lovely wife, Katherine, released "Commissioned" about five years ago.  However, the new expansion for the game entitled "The Call" just hit Kickstarter this week and was funded in 52 minutes.  That is amazing!  They still have some incredible stretch goals they would love to meet and this is also a great time just to learn more about the game and its creators.

In this interview, we learn more about "Commissioned", its mechanics, its expansion, and how the theme influenced its design.  Insights are shared about general game design, funding games, and also publishing games. Finally, we discuss how difficult times, faith, and game design can all meet in beautiful ways.

[Topics: Contentment, Satisfaction, Trust]

It's time to take Our Shot!  "Hamilton" is a Broadway smash hit. This past summer, the musical made its debut on Disney +, which made the show accessible to an entirely new audience who never had the chance to see it in person.

What did our team think of this musical that many see as "revolutionary" in more ways than one?  How do some of the themes in "Hamilton" lend itself well to a discussion on Contentment and finding true Satisfaction in life?  And why do we keep randomly breaking out into song?

All this and more in today's episode of ShatterCast!

Warning: The musical "Hamilton" does contain adult language and some sexual situations.  Viewer Discretion is advised.

We are kicking off Season 3 with an extremely important topic.  Throughout life, many people can struggle with varying degrees of mental health issues.  In this special two-part segment we are joined by an experienced counselor to discuss in depth some of these topics.

Trigger Warning:  Topics include Anxiety, Depression, and Suicidal Thoughts.  These are important topics but we also know they can be triggering to some, so please be advised.  We encourage our younger viewers to watch with a parent or trusted adult.

In Part One we share -
Some important mental health conditions and why they are more common than we often think
Some illustrations of mental health struggles from media, our personal lives, and even the Bible
What we can do if we feel ourself or someone we know is in immediate danger

In Part Two we share -
Some additional causes of mental health struggles
Positive things we can do to help when dealing with mental health issues
How seeking help and how faith can make a positive difference

Huge thanks to counselor Brandon Vieira, MA, LMHC for adding his experience and insight into this conversation.  There are many potential treatment options that counselors like Brandon might recommend depending on a person's particular circumstances so we encourage you to reach out for help when needed.

If you or someone you know need immediate help, please reach out to someone or call U.S. Suicide Prevention Hotline 1-800-273-8255 (or search the internet for the best number in your country).
