I was able to speak with Soundharya about engineering and working for a firm in India vs working for a Canadian firm. We touch on being a woman in a male-dominated field and what unfortunate challenges that can sometimes bring.

Danielle Shaw and is a journey’mam’ Ironworker/welder with Local 97 Ironworkers in Vancouver, BC. She has been in the trades for about 7 or 8 years, originally as a very green welder with little experience, until she stumbled upon the office of the Ironworkers with a resume and super keen attitude. From there her real apprenticeship commenced and has become a red seal ironworker. Danielle is also a mother of two, pregnancies through her apprenticeship and has been lucky to have a great union to support her through this journey.

In this episode, I speak with Lisa Caldwell, Founder and CEO of LMC Leadership & Coaching with over 20 years of corporate experience. She has a passion for supporting the success and development of others through growing their skills and knowledge, with ongoing mentoring and coaching.  We talk about listening to your gut, being open about your career goals and our current sense of community.

Darci is a first-year electrical apprentice with the IBEW local 105 in Hamilton, Ontario. She comes from a background in project management within marketing companies. This is a second career for her. She wanted a career that she could support herself and her son and decided to look into construction. She was so inspired by other women in trades and now she wants to help inspire the next generation.
