  • E139: High Achieving Your Way through Life Without Anxiety and Overwhelm with Dr. Jennifer Blossom
Are you a high achiever who struggles with overwhelm, anxiety and burnout? In this episode, Dr. Jennifer Blossom, a peak performance trainer and neuroscientist,  provides practical tools to reprogram your thoughts for success. She shares how high achievers like us often suffer in silence due to imposter syndrome, self-doubt, and perfectionism. But there is hope! She reveals a simple yet powerful framework called BOLD to intentionally reshape your thinking and step into your power.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

What makes you a high achiever
    Anxiety as a silent struggle
    The power of self-awareness
How long it takes to make a change
Ways to get out of your head
The BOLD framework for your daily practice
Indulging in an emotion versus needing to process this

    Episode Highlights:
[08:58] Anxiety as a Silent Struggle
Anxiety is often a silent struggle that many people experience but rarely talk about. It’s not “normalized” because on the surface, we may seem to have it all – the material possessions, the relationships, the experiences. Yet, internally, we still feel the weight of anxiety and its impact on our well-being. It’s important to acknowledge that as humans, we are susceptible to these feelings, regardless of external circumstances. This is why cultivating inner tools and practices becomes crucial, as they help us break free from the constant cycle of anxiety. We also face the added pressure of feeling guilty or inadequate because we believe we shouldn’t be experiencing anxiety when we seemingly have everything. Understanding that anxiety is a valid struggle, regardless of external success, allows us to prioritize our mental health and seek the support and tools necessary for healing and growth.
[16:45] Ways to Get Out of Your Head
Getting out of your head and shifting your mindset can be a transformative process. One way to start is by doing a brain dump, where you write down all your thoughts and feelings without any filters or judgments. This allows you to gain clarity about where you are and what’s going on inside your mind. Remember that this exercise is just for you, and if you feel uncomfortable with what you’ve written, you can always discard it later.
Next, give yourself permission to dream and imagine a life without the mental baggage and emotional drama. Ask yourself what the best version of you would look like. Consider how this version would think, talk to themselves, carry themselves, and pursue their passions. Visualize how this version of you would live fully and nurture their relationships. Taking the time to answer these questions and truly feel their impact helps create a vision of the direction you want to move towards.
[24:03] The BOLD Framework for Your Daily Practice
B – Brain Dump. This means writing down all the thoughts swirling in your head to gain awareness of them.
O – Observe. Observe the feelings associated with those thoughts with curiosity, not judgment.
L – Lean In and Lead. Feel the thoughts and emotions, process them and move through them. This may require self-awareness, help from others, or personal development work.
D – Decide. Decide what you want to believe instead and create a daily “power sentence” to retrain your brain and step into that new thought.

From hair coloring to wearing Spanx, we discuss the societal pressures that women face to look perfect. This is an important topic that resonates with all women, regardless of age or background. Listen in to this powerful episode as Allison shares her story and provides valuable insights into overcoming body dysmorphia.
We’d also love to know your thoughts on this topic and join us in embracing self-love and acceptance!
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

Breaking convention through the lens of continuous learning
Allison’s journey dealing with body dysmorphia
How the Tarot reading gave her permission to try something new
Breaking free from the pressure to be perfect
The power of a pleasant smile

    Episode Highlights:
    [05:58] Overcoming Body Dysmorphia
Body dysmorphia is defined as a mental health condition where a person spends a lot of time worrying about flaws in their appearance, and where the flaws are often unnoticeable to others. Allison developed body dysmorphia and control issues after having children through IVF at 40 and 38. She strived to regain her pre-baby body, which led to an addiction to working out and nutrition, called orthorexia. Despite hiring trainers and nutritionists, restricting her food intake, and measuring everything she ate, she couldn’t get rid of her “pooch”. This obsession with her BMI and borderline obesity levels pushed Allison to seek therapy before it consumed her life.
    [20:18] Allison’s Journey to Self-Love
Allison describes her experience of feeling pressure to maintain a perfect appearance, even as she enters a new phase of life. She notices imperfections in her body and feels the urge to fix them, but recognizes the harm that this obsession causes and the need to shift her focus to more positive pursuits. This realization was the beginning of her journey toward self-love and acceptance, which ultimately led to the creation of her podcast and other hobbies. Allison’s story is a powerful reminder of the impact that societal standards of beauty can have on one’s mental health and the importance of prioritizing self-care over external validation.

Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

How embracing discomfort and taking action lead to success
    How failure leads to growth
Taking your life to the next level through accountability

    Episode Highlights:
[12:37] How Embracing Discomfort and Taking Action Lead to Success
Success is not about being perfect or having all the answers. It’s about taking that first step, even if it feels uncomfortable. Too often, people get stuck in over-analysis paralysis and think they need to have everything figured out before they can move forward. But the truth is, the ones who make it and live out their dreams are the ones who allow themselves to be imperfect and embrace discomfort. They don’t let fear hold them back from taking action. It’s not about checking boxes or having credentials, it’s about learning and growing along the way. So take that first action and see where it takes you. That’s how you move the needle and make an impact.
To live out your dreams and achieve big things, it’s important to focus on the present moment and take action. Don’t wait for things to be perfect before you start. Instead, embrace learning, growth, and pivoting as you move forward. Failure is a natural part of the process, so don’t let it hold you back. Instead, learn from your mistakes and keep pushing forward. By taking action now and staying persistent, you can turn your dreams into reality and accomplish great things.
[14:33] How Failure Leads to Growth
The challenges we face in life are where we have the most opportunity for growth. Unfortunately, many people choose to stay within their comfort zone because they fear failure and the unknown. But I don’t believe in failure as a concept. Instead, I see it as an opportunity to learn, grow, and evolve. It’s important to try new things and take risks, even if it means facing the possibility of failure. In sports, for example, if you’re a forward in soccer and you never try to take on the defender, will you ever score a goal? No, probably not. The defender might steal the ball from you eight out of ten times, but those two times you get past them, you can score the game-winning goal. So don’t be afraid to take risks and learn from both your successes and failures. That’s how you grow and improve as a person.
[35:22] Taking Your Life to the Next Level
If you’re serious about taking your life to the next level, it’s important to have accountability and a supportive community around you. Find a one-on-one mentor or people who understand your vision and potential, and who will help you move forward. These individuals should see beyond your current circumstances and recognize who you can become. Look for people with whom you can have deeper conversations and form meaningful relationships. By surrounding yourself with the right people, you’ll increase your chances of success and fulfillment in life.

  • E136: The Secret to Getting Along with Gabrielle Hartley
Conflict can arise in any aspect of our lives, be it at home, at work, or even on social media. However, it’s not always a negative experience, and can even lead to positive outcomes. In this episode, I am joined by a special guest, Gabrielle Hartley, a divorce attorney, author, and TEDx speaker who has written a book called The Secret to Getting Along. Together, we’ll explore the various ways to approach conflict, deal with high-conflict individuals, and ultimately create more harmony and connection in our relationships.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

    The formula for getting along
The best way to deal with conflict
How to handle conflict without antagonizing the person
How to deal with high-conflict individuals

    Episode Highlights:
[03:05] The Formula for Getting Along
We tend to overcomplicate conflict resolution in our minds, but in reality, it’s much simpler than we think. The main objective of The Secret to Getting Along is to enhance our relationships both at home and in the professional world. While the YES method doesn’t guarantee perfect relationships (that’s just unrealistic!), it does provide a practical approach to dealing with difficult people or situations. Even if you’re faced with an impossible-to-deal-with individual, you have the power to manage yourself and your reactions. By changing your perspective and responses, you can influence how others react to you, leading to positive shifts in your interactions.
[08:29] The Best Way to Deal with Conflict
The first step is to ask yourself why you want what you want underneath your position. It’s essential to differentiate between wants and needs. Identify what you really need and what the other person needs. When you understand their needs and how important they are to them, you are more likely to give them what they need. When everyone’s needs are met, it’s easier to satisfy some of your wants and desires.
[14:57] Handling Conflicts Without Antagonizing the Other Person
Here are some quick tips on how to handle conflict without antagonizing the other person:

Take a step back and practice deep breathing. When someone is escalating, it can be annoying and trigger your emotional charge. Deep breathing in for five counts, holding for five counts, and exhaling for five counts can help you regulate your emotions. This pause will also encourage the other person to take a break since you’re not interacting with them.
Learn to say “no” and set boundaries. If you’re dealing with an aggressive person, being a people pleaser or remaining silent can be interpreted as acquiescence. Instead of stonewalling, there are certain phrases you can use like “Let me take five minutes to get back to you” or “I need some time to cool off.” You can also suggest communicating via writing to avoid getting caught up in endless back-and-forth discussions. This effectively establishes boundaries while reducing the other person’s anxiety about the situation.
Create Safe Haven containers by slowing down the conversation. When things start to escalate, suggest addressing one issue at a time, and have the other person name the most important issue to them. This approach makes each small issue more manageable and tolerable, leading to a more productive discussion.

A look into the latest fashion trends
    Are skinny jeans still in?
    What authentic fashion is
    How you show up matters
    What business casual means
    How to reimagine your wardrobe

    Episode Highlights:
[06:57] Common Wardrobe Mistakes Women Make
Women often make the mistake of having a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear, leading to desperate shopping sprees and frustration. Holding on to items from the past can also hinder personal growth. Jessica’s solution is to curate a wardrobe that reflects her clients’ lifestyles, ensuring every piece serves a purpose, rather than shopping on impulse. A thoughtful and intentional approach to building a wardrobe leads to a more functional and stylish collection of clothes.
[10:15] It’s About Fit and Fabric
When shopping for core wardrobe pieces like a white T-shirt, it’s crucial to prioritize fit and fabric over brand and price. Repeatedly buying the same item in search of the perfect one is common, but investing in high-quality materials that lay nicely on the body is key to building a functional and stylish wardrobe. Unfortunately, many people opt for cheaper alternatives that won’t last or look as good. Investing in quality core pieces saves time and money in the long run and ensures a timeless and versatile wardrobe.
[11:22] Are Skinny Jeans Still In?
Skinny jeans are a timeless staple that has evolved through different styles and fabrics. Denim has shifted and changed over the years, offering a wide range of options like cocktail denim for dressier occasions and trouser denim as an alternative to dress pants. Although skinny jeans may not have been as visible in recent fashion trends, they have not gone out of style. In fact, they will continue to be a popular choice even for next fall and winter.
    [15:24] What Authentic Fashion Means
Authentic fashion is all about embracing our uniqueness and allowing it to shine through on the outside. It’s not about how others perceive us, but about how we feel about ourselves when we wear certain outfits. That moment when we feel fabulous in what we’re wearing, with our makeup and hair perfectly done, is when we can truly let our authentic selves flow through us. Authenticity is key to giving our best selves and serving others.
[17:10] How You Show Up Matters
How we show up in our daily lives is crucial for self-care and giving ourselves the worthiness we deserve. Neglecting this can set a negative tone for the day, impacting our mindset and interactions with others. Whether it’s working out, putting on makeup and skincare, or dressing in our best outfits, taking intentional steps sets us up for success and helps us be our most powerful selves. When we show up feeling good about ourselves, we’re better equipped to serve others and hold space for them.

How can living with a cowgirl attitude change your life? Today’s guest is Courtenay DeHoff, a real-life cowgirl, who’s going to tell us how to do just that! Courtenay is a sought-after keynote speaker, network television personality, and cowboy-hat-wearing cowgirl. She’s the founder of the global brand movement called Fancy Lady Cowgirl, and she aims to celebrate women from all walks of life and teach them to lean into their true identities to reach new levels of success and fulfillment.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

Being a cowgirl is in all of us
What it means to have a cowgirl attitude
    How to find your identity
    Grit in an anti-hustle culture

    Episode Highlights:
[09:38] What it Means to Have a Cowgirl Attitude
To be a cowgirl means owning and embracing your unique identity without compromising it for anyone or anything. It’s about valuing yourself and your worthiness, which is deeply ingrained in Western culture. A cowgirl embodies resilience, grit, and individuality, traits that are essential to living life on her own terms. And let’s not forget the legendary aspect of being a cowgirl – she aspires to live a life that’s truly iconic by embodying all these qualities. Once you tap into this mindset, you too can live a life that’s worthy of the cowgirl legacy.
[12:18] How to Find Your Identity
Take a moment and reflect on what brings you joy and ignites your passion. What motivates you to get up in the morning, even when you feel tired and exhausted? Identify that spark that drives you forward and reminds you of your purpose – that feeling that says, “Yes, this is why I’m doing what I’m doing.” Think about that bigger picture – perhaps you want to showcase the essence of being a cowgirl to the world or teach others how to integrate aspects of that lifestyle into their own lives. By embracing this identity and way of life, you can tap into a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment.
[19:53] Grit in an Anti-Hustle Culture
In today’s anti-hustle culture, the importance of grit and hard work can often be overlooked. However, growing up in a Western culture taught you that showing up and putting in the work every day is non-negotiable. Even as a child, you had to do chores before school to ensure that the animals were taken care of and there was food on the table. This all-hands-on-deck mentality has stayed with you, and you believe that it’s essential to embrace this mindset in order to achieve success.
Although rest is important, it’s equally important to recognize that nothing gets done without putting in the work. Whether you’re trying to get fit or build a successful career, you have to push yourself even when you don’t feel like it. Unfortunately, this is something that’s often missing in our culture today. By embracing the no-excuses mentality that’s central to cowboy culture, we might just be able to reach new heights of success and fulfillment.

  • E132: Why Sex Matters and How to Reignite the Passion with Jen Melville
Looking to reignite the passion in your relationship? Sex and relationship coach Jen Melville shares valuable insights on how to overcome common challenges couples face and factors that impact physical intimacy. Jen helps couples transform from tired, detached, and overwhelmed, to connected, supportive, and passionate sexual partners. She works mostly with couples, and some women by themselves, whether they’re single or in a relationship, and they talk about how to manage motherhood, life, and all of the challenges that come with being a romantic partner.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

    The common challenges couples face
    How to reignite your passion
The two types of sex drives
    Touch-resistant vs. affection resistant
    Scheduling time for sex
Should every woman own a vibrator?

    Episode Highlights:
    [06:05] Common Challenges Couples Face
Many couples face challenges with their sex drive, especially those who have young children or busy schedules. Fatigue, feeling overwhelmed, and overstimulation can leave partners disconnected and unsure of how to proceed. It’s common for people to turn to medication when they experience a low sex drive, but it’s often a symptom of underlying issues such as poor communication, stress, or ongoing conflict.
Jen uses the terms sex and intimacy interchangeably because intimacy encompasses a wider range of activities beyond intercourse. Lack of sex or intimacy can impact other areas of the relationship and may be a symptom of an underlying challenge. Therefore, it’s crucial to identify and address the underlying issue to restore physical intimacy in the relationship.
When you’re experiencing poor communication, high-stress levels, or frequent conflicts, it’s common to lose interest in having sex or being intimate with your partner. This can be a symptom of underlying issues and challenges beyond just a lack of physical attraction. Identifying and addressing the root cause is key to restoring physical intimacy in the relationship.
[12:38] How to Reignite Your Passion
If you’re looking to reignite the passion in your relationship, the first step is to figure out where the passion went in the first place. It’s important to remember that a lack of passion, sex, or intimacy is often a symptom of underlying issues that need to be addressed. Start by focusing on communication and learning how to effectively talk to your partner about your thoughts, feelings, and desires. Daily exercises, like sharing what’s going on in your life, can help build the foundation of open communication. Additionally, understanding your own sex drive can be helpful. While everyone’s sex drive can vary, identifying your normal sex drive versus your vacation sex drive can help you better understand your own needs and desires. By focusing on communication and understanding your own needs, you can take steps to reignite the passion in their relationship.
[27:56] Should Every Woman Own a Vibrator?
Vibrators can serve as a helpful tool for self-arousal or partnered play. According to research, between 85 to 89% of women need clitoral stimulation to achieve orgasm, so a vibrator can be useful in providing this stimulation. However, it’s important to remember that vibrators are just one option. Using hands, lotion, ticklers, or other means can also provide pleasure during solo or partnered play. Owning a vibrator is a personal choice and one shouldn’t feel abnormal if they choose not to own one. That being said, vibrators can be a great addition to a sex toy collection for those who desire more tools to achieve pleasure or orgasm. Ultimately, the decision to purchase a vibrator is up to the individual, as it isn’t necessary for everyone to own one to experience sexual satisfaction.

  • E131: Doing the Unexpected and Living an Authentic Life with Sana Akhand
What do you do when the life you’ve planned no longer feels right? It can be challenging when the carefully crafted plans we have don’t align with what we truly want. But making the decision to step away and embrace a new path is a courageous move towards honoring our inner selves. It’s a chance to find deeper fulfillment and a life that feels more aligned with our values and passions.
My guest today is Sana Akhand, who had a six-figure job and was living a successful married life in New York until she realized she was unfulfilled. She wanted to create a life based on what truly made her happy and what felt authentic, rather than external validation. Listen in today as we’re diving into doing the unexpected, ditching the good girl, and living an authentic life.
Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

Embracing change and finding yourself through travel
Embracing feminine energy in a masculine world
What “together, living apart” looks like
Empowering women to speak up and share their truth

    Episode Highlights:
[09:07] Embracing Change: Finding Yourself Through Travel
Sometimes, we find ourselves in a job that doesn’t align with our values or makes us uncomfortable in our own bodies. If left unchecked, we risk losing ourselves and sacrificing our happiness for the sake of money. That’s why choosing to leave that industry could be the best decision you make for yourself. Even without a plan, taking that leap of faith can lead you on a journey toward self-discovery and exploration. Sometimes, change is what we need most in order to realign ourselves with our values, and reconnect with our passions. Wasting your time in a job that doesn’t make you happy is not an option. So, take that chance, explore new paths, and embark on a journey to figure out who you really are and what you want for your own life.
[17:41] Embracing Feminine Energy in a Masculine World
In a society that values masculine energy, women have been trained to operate in the same way as men. However, this approach ignores the fact that women are fundamentally different from men and have unique needs that must be acknowledged. Women must embrace their feminine energy to operate at their full potential. This includes understanding and honoring their 28-day cycle, matching their 24-hour cycle, and prioritizing rest, replenishment, and processing time. By embracing their feminine energy, women can show up as their most powerful selves and break free from the constraints of a masculine-dominated society. We are learning how to be women for the first time in society, and it’s an exciting journey.
[22:21] Empowering Women to Speak Up and Share Their Truth
The fear of speaking out can hold many women back from sharing their truth and wisdom. But it’s time to change that. It’s time to break the silence, share your experiences, and inspire others to do the same. By speaking out, we give others permission to start having difficult conversations and to share their own stories. This is how we create a community of support and understanding, where women are encouraged to embrace their power and find their voice. As we break the silence, share our truth, and empower others to do the same, together, we can create a world where every woman’s voice is heard and valued.

E129: Awakening the Queen Within with Dr. Kennedy Garcia

Did you know that girls stop dreaming at the age of seven, whereas boys continue to dream all the way through adulthood? Sadly, the act of no longer seeing yourself in a dream or being able to live your dream is one of the triggers of hopelessness that could result in suicide attempts.

In this episode, Dr. Kennedy Garcia talks about her efforts to bridge this gender dream gap through her own nonprofit organization called The Dream Academy, which aims to teach girls leadership skills and provide them with resources to live their dreams. Her advocacy work is personal as she became a suicide loss survivor 15 years ago and decided to become an advocate for mental health, increasing access to services and resources in the community.

Here are some power takeaways from today’s conversation:

    • The gender dream gap and how The Dream Academy bridges the gap
    • The need for continuous mentorship
    • Steps to building self-confidence
    • The importance of a personal board of directors
    • Episode Highlights:

[04:32] The Dream Academy: Bridging the Gender Dream Gap

Creating resources when people are in crisis is wonderful, but it’s important to address the root causes. We shouldn’t wait until there’s a tragedy before we give someone resources to do something about it. A study suggests that girls stop dreaming at 7 years old. That’s a far cry from boys who continue to dream throughout adulthood. Not being able to realize your dream leads to hopelessness that could lead to suicidal ideation and attempts. This is the impetus behind the creation of The Dream Academy. We need to restore the ability of girls to dream by giving them the resources to live them out.

[08:12] The Need for Continuous Mentorship

Dr. Kennedy Garcia emphasizes the importance of mentorship in helping people overcome limited beliefs, especially when they come from negative environments. Mentorship is a cyclical process that requires time and effort to help mentees reach a place of self-empowerment and of a positive mindset. [16:24] Steps to Building Self-Confidence

      1. Connect with your Creator: Spend time in prayer, meditation, or whatever form of connection that resonates with you to tap into that source. Reflect on the qualities your Creator instilled in you and affirm them.
      2. Identify your strengths: Take an inventory of your strengths and talents. Recognize what makes you unique and exceptional. This will help you focus on what you are good at rather than what you lack.
      3. Embrace your blind spots: Recognize where you need to grow and improve. Instead of seeing your blind spots as weaknesses, view them as opportunities for development.
      4. Take action: Confidence comes from taking action. Practice and do as much as you can. The more you do, the more confident you will become. Remember, progress is better than perfection.
