One of the most popular Sunday-School songs is Jesus Love’s Me, which ends with the statement: “Yes, Jesus loves me. The Bible tells me so.” For many questions, it is easy to answer, “The Bible says so.” But the question stands, at least in the modern and postmodern age, “So what?

Are the words in the Bible true?

Is everything in the Bible true?

Can people trust in the Bible as the Word of God?”

As Christians, we can’t ignore these questions....Growing up in the church, I would hear people always say, “Because the Bible says so.” But they would never really take the time to understand “why” the Bible said so, “how” it applied to us, or “why” we should believe it. The result of this was, a lot of people weren’t getting their questions answered, and so they would leave the church and search for answers elsewhere…

Like all worldviews, modernism is now in a time of transition. After roughly two hundred years of modern thinking and advancement, new generations are emerging that have begun to question modern tenets. Those growing up in the 1960s observed that the tremendous advancements of science did not necessarily make the world a better place. War, famine, disease, and poverty still exist. People still have an innate longing for something beyond themselves; something they do not have to explain. Science was supposed to answer these life problems, but it could not. Thus, the 1960s and 1970s saw a rise in spiritual quests. People became intrigued by the idea of a mystical, spiritual side to life—one that needed no scientific proof, only experiential proof. The subjectivity that made religion weak in modernism has made it hugely popular in postmodernism...

IN JOHN CHAPTER 3 - A MAN NAMED NICODEMUS, COMES TO JESUS AT NIGHT. THE MAN IS A PHARISEE, A TEACHER OF THE LAW OF MOSES, AND LEADER OF THE JEWS. HE COMES KNOWING THAT JESUS IS FROM GOD BECAUSE OF THE SIGNS JESUS HAS PERFORMED. HE KNOWS THAT HE IS MISSING SOMETHING IN HIS LIFE AND THAT JESUS HOLDS THE ANSWER. JESUS TELLS HIM THAT UNLESS SOMEONE IS BORN-AGAIN, THEY CANNOT ENTER THE KINGDOM OF GOD. THIS STATEMENT PUTS NICODEMUS IN A WORLD OF BEWILDERMENT AND CURIOSITY. HOW CAN SOMEONE BE BORN AGAIN; DO THEY CRAWL BACK INTO THEIR MOTHER’S WOMB???

Part Four: James told his readers that the cure to conflict in the church is found in understanding the grace of God. When Christians apply this grace to their lives, they can withstand the gravitational pull toward the world’s system and the world’s wisdom. In verses 7-12, James gives us principles of God’s grace.

This is part three of our series, The War Within. In this series, we are looking at conflict in the church...

Part three: What is the cure for conflict in the church? How do we overcome the fighting and quarrels among us? According to James, the cure is found in understanding the grace of God. We are not left to the cycle of unsatisfied pleasures, uncontrolled passions, untapped potential, and unanswered prayers. We do not have to be enemies of God, spiritual adulterers. The same grace that initiated our fellowship with God can sustain that fellowship despite the pleasure of this world. God gives “greater grace to those who are humble before Him.”​ This message rings throughout Scripture.

This is part two of our series, The War Within. In this series, we are looking at conflict in the church...

Part two: The Characteristics of Conflict, a man allows himself to desire something. That thing begins to dominate his thoughts; he finds himself involuntarily thinking about it in his waking hours and dreaming of it when he sleeps. It begins to be what is aptly called, a ruling passion. He begins to form imaginary schemes to obtain it, and these schemes will involve ways of eliminating those who stand in his way. For long enough all this may go on in his mind. Then one day the imagination blazes into action, and he may find himself taking the terrible steps necessary to obtain his desire. Every crime in this world has come from desire which was first only a feeling in the heart, but which being nourished long enough came to action in the end.​
