Christmas Eve at Sherwood Park Alliance Church

In 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, Paul exhorts us to rejoice always, to pray continually, and to give thanks in all circumstances. This is the joy that comes not from external circumstances but from a deep, unshakable foundation in Christ. As we reflect on His birth, we are reminded that true joy comes from being in relationship with Him, the source of our salvation and hope.

Philippians 4:6-7 teaches us that true peace, the peace of Christ, transcends our circumstances and guards our hearts and minds. Jesus' coming into a troubled world reminds us that peace is not about the absence of conflict, but about the presence of God in our lives, a peace that passes all understanding. This Advent, we reflect on how Jesus offers us peace that endures beyond the noise and stress of the season.

In 1 Peter 1:10-13, we see that the hope we have in Christ is more than wishful thinking—it’s a confident expectation based on God's promises. The prophets longed for this hope, and we, too, are called to live in the hope of Christ's return. As we wait, we fix our eyes on the "other side" of Christmas—on the hope that Jesus, both in His first coming and in His return, brings salvation and the promise of eternal life.
