In this episode we have with us a hustler & seeker of great stories, they are usually the first step in getting a film to a studio — Shifting The Spotlight on one such seeker, Content & Development Head - Natasha Chopra!
Over the last decade she has worked in the development team and eventually led them in various studios, including UTV Motion Pictures, Balaji Motion Pictures, Junglee Pictures, Drishyam Films, Sanjay Dutt Productions and more.
We are familiar with the struggle and heartbreak of the writers when a film gets shelved, but we seldom get to know about the hard work put behind by the development team to get a project together. This episode discusses that and a lot more. If we say so ourselves, this episode is a treasure for writers.

This week, in a fresh new episode of Shifting The Spotlight, we are joined by a very special guest and a man of many talents - Jahan Singh Bakshi. In this part, we discuss his journey from working as an Assistant Director on Anurag Kashyap's Gangs Of Wasseypur to working as the Digital Marketing Manager on films like Masaan, Newton, Lipstick Under My Burkha, The World Before Her and early days of the famous blog, Passion For Cinema.
We deep dive into the details of the marketing campaign of Masaan, how they added a human touch to the campaign, and Jahan's journey from working as the social media guy in an agency to helming successful film campaigns. We ponder upon, why most MBA's turned marketing managers don't have a creative bent of mind, is marketing a byproduct of the quality of the film, shrinking marketing timelines of OTT releases and which film's campaign is his favourite in recent times.

In the introduction episode, we do a deep dive into behind the scenes of movie marketing and in the process introduce ourselves and the podcast. I, Sagar Shah, an ex-CA student decided to drop-out and leave a finance career to join the movies and in this episode we discuss my journey so far. We discuss the marketing campaigns of films like Newton, Lipstick Under My Burkha, Kaamyaab and others. Is negative publicity good publicity, do producers plant the controversy around the court cases right before the film's release, why are actors tired of movie promotions, do item numbers necessarily translate into a film's box-office success, are some of the many questions we try to address in this episode.

Through Shifting The Spotlight our endeavour is to bring forward the stories of the people who work behind the scenes in the film industry. Whose names we might have come across while the end credits roll, but we seldom know anything about them or their work. These include assistant directors, make up artists, publicists, spot dada and a lot more.
We shall do a deep dive into their journey through fun anecdotes, about what happens on a film set to the day to day life back in the office. Our aim is to understand their "9 to 5" and hopefully gain some insights for those who aspire to enter the world of Bollywood.
I am Sagar, I work as the Marketing Manager in this industry and with me is my partner-in-crime, Sudarshan, who is a writer, and together we're brewing a season full of fun guests and their stories. A new episode will drop every week, so sit back, relax and enjoy!
