Maylen Calienes, is an award winning filmmaker, actor & producer. She was born in Cuba and raised in Miami, FL where her career began in writing, directing and acting for theatre. She later moved to Los Angeles, CA where she started filmmaking. Maylen has written, directed and produced several films and has worked on other multicultural projects. A movie she executive produced "Esta Es Tu Cuba" is the winner of a Student Academy Award & a DGA Award. She is the founder of the Latino Filmmakers Network which made its debut at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival. She also formed MayCal Productions which was established in 2005. Maylen has been a big advocate of diversity in the entertainment industry for many years. She is part of the 'Diversity in Cannes' judging committee and produces the New Normal Reading Series in Hollywood that supports diverse storytellers. Maylen is proud to soon launch her new digital media company "Que Eye TV" alongside with her producing partner Johnny Ray Rodriguez which will be bilingual & focus on inclusive and diverse talents.

In other words, people who I believe are sharing their beautiful light with the world in an authentic and positive way! 

Today's Guest is Elaine Del Valle: 

Born & raised in Brownsville, Brooklyn New York, Elaine Del Valle began her entertainment career as an actress, and found early success in the commercial and voice over markets. 

While studying acting under the legendary Wynn Handman at Carnegie Hall, Elaine developed what became her multiple award winning, autobiographical one-woman stage play, Brownsville Bred.  Brownsville Bred chronicled Elaine’s true New York Puerto Rican coming-of-age story— Set in the tough projects of Brownsville Brooklyn, NY, in the 1980’s, Elaine’s story brought resilience, love and laughter to a world filled with crime, heroine-addiction, AIDS, and welfare.—Her Off Broadway debut brought critical acclaim. The New York Times called it “From Girlhood Trials to Onstage Triumph”.

With a deep understanding of her truthful writing’s impact, Elaine founded Del Valle Productions, Inc. —a full service, bilingual film production and casting company with a mission: to infuse entertainment with original programming using diverse talent in front of and behind the camera. Elaine was named “Trendsetter” at New York’s Multicultural Media Forum and “Madrina/Godmother" by Prime Latino Media. Her company has gone on to produce multiple films, and has a casting division (Del Valle Casting) that has cast actors for major market commercials, in television & digital series, theater and in feature films. 

An accomplished producer, Elaine was the first to license an interstitial series (her co-production of Gran’pa Knows Best) to the HBO Latino Network. She received a 2016 Telly award for her co-production of PBS/World Channel series, The Smallest Step. Elaine co-created, co-wrote, produced and directed the comedy web series, Reasons Y I’m Single (now on Amazon Prime). Elaine has also directed commercials (in English and Spanish) and in 2017 she penned Final Decision, which marked Elaine’s directorial debut in a short film. While on the 2017 festival circuit, Final Decision played at over a dozen festivals, winning Del Valle two “Best Actor” awards, a “Best Narrative Director in a Short Film” award and a “Best Original Film Score” award.  Del Valle’s many film productions continue to win awards across festivals including the short hybrid animation documentary, Victor & Isolina— which has won numerous awards, screened at over 50 festivals (including the 2017 Sundance Film Festival), IFP Film Center, and at The MoMA.  Elaine recently licensed Victor & Isolina to HBO where premiered in 2018.

Del Valle’s mission is to tell true Latino stories that inspire through Latino insight and perspective.

This weeks guest is Manu Manzo: 

The avid singer-songwriter & performer was born in Venezuela, and raised in Miami, FL. In 2014 Manu entered the studio independently to produced her first EP titled Como Soy which helped her define her unique style for combining meaningful lyrics with multiple genres including Latin, Jazz, Urban, Funk, R&B and Neo-Soul effortlessly. Manu collaborated with fellow artists Alex Ubago, Tommy Torres and Luis Enrique. The EP would earn Manu her first Latin Grammy® nomination for "Best New Artist".

After signing with Peer music publishing, she released her second EP “Intermedio” which included collaborations from James Poyser - pianist for the roots and Dj Jazzy Jeff.

She is now with in tu línea - Universal music group and released her first two singles with the label “caminando” and “sucia boca” - and is currently working on her first full length studio album 

Besides the arts, Manu advocates for personal freedom and believes in making choices that result in happiness without limitations.

As a female performer in the music industry, she embraces the moment women are having in the industry and works to empower women to continue pursuing their dreams, in their own terms.

Show premieres June 17th. She was raised in San Antonio by two loving parents and is the second oldest of eight kids. Prior to landing her ABC break, Feliz attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn, on a full athletic scholarship for women’s D-1 volleyball. She majored in film/broadcasting.

Priscila García-Jacquier is a Television Academy Young Writer to Watch. Most recently, she was part of Brian Grazer and Ron Howard's Imagine Impact's inaugural class. She has served as the writer's assistant to Alexander Dinelaris (Birdman) and most recently, Graham Moore (The Imitation Game). In 2018, she appeared in Forbes for her digital talk show QUIERO. She assisted Kenny Leon on Broadway's HOLLER IF YA HEAR ME, and Kamilah Forbes' on The Labyrinth Theater's SUNSET BABY. A native of both France and Colombia, Priscila was the first Latina to graduate from Carnegie Mellon's undergrad directing program in 2014.
