The Naxalite movement became one of the most significant and turbulent chapters in the political history of Bengal. From the rise of the Naxalbari movement to its spread across Kolkata and other parts of West Bengal, it left a deep impact on politics, society and a generation of young people.

In this video, we explore how the Naxalite movement emerged, why it gained support among sections of the youth, and how it shaped the political landscape of Bengal during the turbulent years of the late 1960s and 1970s.

1947 — not just a year. It witnessed independence, but at the same time, it witnessed a painful partition that left a deep and lasting wound in the lives of countless people.

The Partition of Bengal changed the lives of millions. Families were forced to leave behind their homes, land, memories and roots. For refugees, the journey was not simply about crossing a border—it was about rebuilding life from nothing while carrying the memories of everything they had lost.

From Bangladesh to West Bengal, the memories of Partition, displacement, lost roots and the struggle to start a new life still live on.

This history is not confined to the pages of textbooks. It survives in the memories and voices of those who witnessed it.

In “Smritir Sindhuk”, listen to the stories of people who experienced those turbulent times firsthand—their memories, emotions, struggles and reflections on Partition and its lasting impact.

Featuring:
Sabita Mukherjee | Shefali Sen | Bhakti Das | Satyendranath Bhattacharya | Shri Anil Kumar Bhattacharya | Manik Gupta

This episode also explores the wider context of refugee life, citizenship, CAA, displacement, changing rules and the continuing impact of Partition on Bengal and its people.

History fades from textbooks, but memory keeps it alive.

This episode explores one of the most painful chapters in Bengal's history—the Great Calcutta Killings (1946) and the communal violence that followed, including its impact across Bengal during the years leading up to Partition.

We discuss the historical context surrounding these events, the experiences of ordinary people, and the roles and responses of important leaders such as Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee and Mahatma Gandhi. Through documented history, we examine how political decisions, communal tensions, and humanitarian efforts shaped the course of these tragic events.

This conversation is intended to encourage a deeper understanding of history through evidence and thoughtful discussion, while remembering the lives affected and reflecting on the importance of peace, dialogue, and communal harmony.
