Hello and welcom back to Short's Cast. We've done an episode on water before but not like this one. Short's is about to break ground on their new water treatment plant so we brought in Tyler Glaze to talk about what that means for Short's Beer, and the city of Elk Rapids. As always Tyler delivers info that will impress your friends, family, and gain a few honorary degrees along the way.

Nicie Spicie is making people happy all over the state of Michigan this summer. This beer is delicious is brewed with lemon zest, orange zest, corriander, and peppercorn. An original homebrew from Joe Short, and a staple at Short's Brewing Company.

We are very excited to be working with Grand Traverse Resort and Spa for the Imperial Series Food and Beer Pairing event going on at the Garvey Family Barn June 7th. Short’s is re-creating the 13 beer Imperial Series for this event to emulate the event that took place seven years ago.

Pauline and Matt sit down with Joe to talk about that very night and what we have to look forward to for the event taking place on June 7th. Pauline and Matt then get the opportunity to head to the 17th floor of Grand Traverse Resort to meet with Director of Culinary, Chef Bill Matthews of Grand Traverse Resort. They plan on giving the food side a little flavor of their own for this event and Chef Bill gives us his perspective of pairing beer and food.

The Southeast Michigan Beer Liberator Brian Talpos joins the show to talk about a new beer release "Prolonged Enjoyment" which is a session IPA coming out this summer. He gives us some food recommendations to pair with this particular beer and also gives us some tips on grilling with beer.

Hello Good Humans! welcome to the 19th episode of Short's Cast. We are going to be bringing you a series on the beloved humulus lupulus plant. It seems this species of the Cannabaceae family is making quite a lot of noise along the 45th parallel and that just happens to be where we live. Short's loves hops, and Michigan, so this series is dedicated to them.

Our head beer liberator Woj gives us a breif history on hops and beer. Pauline has a great interview with Lynn of Great Lakes Hops. They are doing some great research on the plant, creating, tweaking, and discovering just how far hops can evolve in the state of Michigan.

Cinnabilly is hitting the shelves in late May and Pauline breaks it down in this weeks beer release.

We're excited to celebrate American Craft Beer Week and to celebrate the week, we brough some awesome guests onto this week's show. Julia Herz from the Brewers Association joins us via Skype and Pauline heads to Savor in Washington D.C. and gets a chance to talk with Jim Koch founder of Sam Adams, Boston Beer Company.

Pre-Party

We start off a few days before the 10th Anniversary party where Pauline Knighton and Matt Gacioch discuss with Joe Short his first encounters with Dean Ween and the strategy set to book Dean Ween to perform at Short's.

Then producer Mike Moran gets a chance to talk with Dean Ween while he is hooking up the boat for his fishing charter. In this skype interview we get a little perspective from Dean Weens first encounters with Joe and the Short's crew.

Present Party

Mike and Pauline grab a bunch of interviews with 10th Anniversary party attendees, musicians, and Short's staff for the middle section of the show. People came from all over the country to attend this special event and you get a great feel for how much fun was had by all.

To wrap things up Pauline and Matt sit down with Joe again to refect on all that happened on April 26th. The event went off with out incident and we couldn't be happier with the outcome. We hope you had a chance to celebrate ten years of brewing with us, and we hope you enjoy this podcast!

Happy Earth Day craft beer lovers! Thanks for tuning in to Short's Cast. We've got an episode packed with information and great guests who work for organizations that help keep this big blue planet clean and beautiful.

First Pauline sits down with our very own Matt Gacioch, head of sustainability at Short's, to talk about the sustainable initiatives Short's Brewing Company is involved with that benefit our earth.

For a national perspective we call up Josh Mogerman who is the Duputy Media Director for the National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) to talk about the Brewers for Clean Water Campaign. Josh dives into how it works, and how people can get involved.

Then we get a chance to talk to Ian Hughes who is the Assistant Brewery Manager at Goose Island Brewery in Chicago and he gives some perspective from another brewery who is very pro active in their green initiatives. 

Hans Voss comes on the show to chat about the Michigan Land Institute and Megan Olds joins us to talk about Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservacy. Megan is the Director of the organization. 

Welcome to the 15th Episode of Short's Cast and we are extremely happy to have your for this very special episode. We have permission to use the music from Ween in celebration of Dean Ween and The Brown Outs performing at the 10 year anniversary party on April 26th in Bellaire.

We also celebrating the bottling and release of Alien Einstein for the first time ever. Matt Gacioch, Tyler Glaze, and Skinny Fairbanks take turns breaking down this gluten reduced beer. It scheduled to be released in May and we're excited to bring it to the people out there reducing their gluten.

Joe Short joins Matt and Skinny and talks updated specifics to the anniversary party. The staff at Short's have been working very hard preparing for this event, re-creating the Imperial Series, and setting the stage for a great event.

On April 19th a benefit is taking place to support Island, we are grateful to have a song from Gifts or Creatures entitled "Relics and Ghosts". More information on this event can be found below.

Short's is under the gun this week planning it's 10 year anniversary party in downtown Bellaire scheduled for Saturday April 26th. The pub managers were able to sneak away and join Matt Gacioch for an interview and preview the 10 year anniversary party. You get to meet a few newcomers who we hope to have consistently on Short's Cast because they are beautiful people with golden voices and the handshake between Short's and the Good Humans of planet earth!

That of course is also the number of beer in our imperial beer series that will be brewed and re-released at the 10 Year Anniversary Party on April 26th. Short's beers are often known to be extreme, but the recipes are not necessary developed just to be extreme, they are developed to be unique and fun! Pauline also headed out to Boston last week and represented Short's at the Extreme Beer Festival.  While out there, she spoke with the founders of Beer Advocate, a cast of characters from Funky Budda Brewing Company, and Troeg's Brewing Company.
