We're coming to you on Valentine's Eve to talk about our NBA crushes, cutest couples, and other flavors of the week. It's also the week of the Public Service Fund auction at William & Mary Law School, and we've got some items to plug! For the second year in a row, you can bid on a ShotTakes guest spot (leading bid at time of posting: $15; estimated value: priceless). And thanks to the generosity of Friends of the Pod Eddie and Nora Nickel, you can enter the running for prime seats to a Washington Wizards game of your choice (or at least, of one of your three choices). Enjoy the episode, and check out those listings before they close on Thursday!
The trade deadline has passed and while Anthony Davis didn't move (to the Lakers or otherwise), there were still plenty of swaps to run through. Tune in for everything you need to know about the trades that went down this week, plus our thoughts on All-Star rosters, and a "shootaround" of takes at the end.
Pelicans superstar Anthony Davis has demanded a trade and we have a lot of high-BROW thoughts about it. Additionally, the Knicks and Mavericks added to the fun by agreeing to a major transaction just minutes after we started recording! #ThisLeague, am I right?
50—count 'em, FIFTY—official ShotTakes episodes are in the books....and we're still the #1-rated podcast on iTunes. We celebrated our golden show with a requiem for Victor Oladipo's season (prayers up for a full recovery, Vic), All-Star picks, injury rundown, trade talk, and more. Thanks to everyone who has stuck with us for 50 episodes—we love doing this and plan to bring you many more episodes in the future.
Unlike the Democratic primary where you're stuck waiting on the presidential aspirants to declare, WE decide who the candidates for NBA MVP are in this episode of ShotTakes. It was great to have the whole crew together to define the MVP field, discuss trades, decide whether the Celtics are in crisis mode (though Bill Simmons sounds like an idiot in the intro regardless), and learn some historical fun facts along the way.
NOTE: there were some audio issues around minutes 45-50 when we first posted the episode, but the new file *should* eliminate them—so delete and re-download you see this.
Martin was a DNP-illness, so Husband of the Pod Alex Lester-Abdalla joined Eric, Elizabeth, and Scott to break down the NBA at the season's midway point. We called out disappointing teams, noted some high-level themes, reacted to the end of the Tom Thibodeau era in Minnesota, discussed the geopolitical dimensions of Enes Kanter's abstention from the Knicks' trip to New York, and answered some mailbag questions from Frenemy of the Pod Hassan Antetokounmpo. Great to be back in the 'burg and back on the air!
They're back! Scott welcomes on fellow Humble Sons of the Rust Belt Shane, Jesse, Danny, Ben, and Evan for another holiday special. Pittsburgh may be in mourning following the Steelers' tragic elimination from the playoffs, but the guys pulled it together to talk NBA hoops in what is becoming a ShotTakes seasonal tradition.
(Note: sorry for any audio issues in the second half of the episode—our recording session bled into a New Year's Eve party occurring upstairs!)
