Any country you go to, you’re likely to find a Nigerian. It’s no surprise that as Afrobeats becomes more and more popular worldwide, the media image is so closely linked to Nigerian’s most popular Afrobeats artists. This leads to other sounds from Africa either being overshadowed or misidentified as Afrobeats. Would a more specific name which matches the public perception allow for these other sounds to reach similar levels globally, or would this do more harm than good?
