Show Us Your Mix

This week we've got a real treat for you. Join us as we take a trip back to 1994 and listen to a mix exchanged in high school between two friends. Filled with hisses and crackles, this cassette even features candid commentary from Jackie herself.

Big shout out to our friend Evan for holding onto this mix for all these years. To quote him, "this shows what the 80's looked like in the view of the 90's". What a time warp.

This mix comes all the way from New Orleans! Made in (you guessed it) April of 2001, it's made for the mixer's partner.

April showers bring... you mixing powers? That doesn't really work. I don't know, it's a solid mix of earnest love tunes that make sense for 2001.

Big shout out to our friend Steve at 3rdfloortapes.com for this week's mix.

An exceptional mix made for an extraordinary listener to the podcast. All the golden oldies you love. Well... there are a couple tunes that aren't extraordinary. Or amazing. You'll see.

412 is not about Terry's Chocolate Orange. 412 is not about a band called John Lee's Hooker. 412 is not about Brooks, Alberta. 412 is not a helpline for puzzles. 412 is not about the CIA.

412 IS a fun indie rock mix made by the legendary Mike Doherty. Don't sleep on it!

All the way from jolly old England, we've got a real classic for you this week. Inspired by a messy break up, this bad boy is anything but consistent: We've got REO Speedwagon, Cher, Seal... You name it. The perfect soundtrack for burning your ex's belongings.

A trip to the local thrift store turns out to be rewarding. The crew discuss Pearl Jam, Joan Jett and Gord Downie. Escape your troubles and runaway to paradise with this mix as your soundtrack.

Note: This episode was recorded a short while before Eddie Van Halen passed away. R.I.P.

Nelson Road Trip #1

Pack your bags, we're headed to Nelson! Thankfully we've got this fun mix to keep us company on those long, curvy mountain roads. Big thanks to our pal Jake for this one.

We've got a real treat for you this week. Keenan's girlfriend has generously donated one of her mix CDs from high school. It's depressing, it's angsty, it's inconsistent, it's... very much a high school mix. Crack a White Claw and hit play.

It's all there in the title, folks. Join us while we press play on a mix tape full of folk tunes and hard-livin' country. Keep the bourbon close for this one.

People use 'ummm' to indicate hesitation, often as a beat to decide what to say next. This mix conjures one ummm after the other. You'll find everything from Buck Cherry to the infamous Wesley Willis without ever being confident what's coming up next.. or how to feel about it. A fitting title for one rollercoaster of a mix. Big thanks to James for this one.
