CDR Bobby R. Jones, USN (Ret.) is from Fayetteville, Georgia and graduated from The Westminster Schools of Atlanta. After accepting an appointment to the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, he lettered in Football and Track, and was designated a Surface Warfare Officer upon commissioning with the Class of 2001. He received his Master's Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College. He is currently pursuing a second Master's Degree at the School for Public and International Affairs at the University of Georgia.
CDR Jones' at sea assignments have been Deck Officer onboard USS Germantown (LSD 42) and USS Harpers Ferry (LSD 49), Fire Control Officer onboard USS Normandy (CG 60), Weapons and Combat Systems Officer onboard USS Stethem (DDG 63), and Executive Officer USS Anzio (CG 68) and Coastal Riverine Squadron FOUR (CRS-4). Не participated in Operations Enduring Freedom, Noble Eagle, Inherent Resolve and the recovery of 10 detained American Sailors near Farsi Island.
Ashore, CDR Jones past assignments include Admissions Counselor at the United States Naval Academy, Peacekeeper for the United Nations Mission in Liberia, Wargames Planner for the Missile Defense Agency, and Executive Assistant to the Commander of Military Sealift Command.
He assumed duties as Commanding Officer, Maritime Expeditionary Security Squadron FOUR (MSRON-4) in May 2020. While in command, he deployed and also assumed duties as Commander, Task Group 56.7, where he led various missions in the Fifth Fleet Area of Responsibility (Middle East), to include force protection of American assets and infrastructure, assisting in the Afghanistan Evacuation Mission and strategie cooperative engagements with key American allies.
For his final tour he was responsible for the teaching and training of Midshipmen (students) at Morehouse College and the Georgia Institute to Technology as Deputy Commander, NROTC Atlanta Region. CDR Jones retired from Active-Duty September 301h, 2023.
CDR Jones is the recipient of various awards and citations to include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, the Joint Commendation Medal and multiple Battle "E" Awards. He was the 2021 Navy recipient of the Blacks in Government Military Meritorious Service Award. Additionally, he is a board member for Atlanta Heights Charter School, Liberty Classical Schools, and is a proud member Leadership Georgia's Class of 2023.
