Recovery is learning to love and accept yourself.
What happens in a 12-Step meeting are recovering addicts loving on each other until an addict knows how to love themselves.
Addicts become grateful for everything that has happened in their life, knowing their God will use their experience for His good.
They become at peace with themself.
The only way to keep and activate this love is to give it away.

Depression is real.
In this episode, Pastor Michael Scholtes and I discussed his book Darkwater a memoir of his depression and faith.
Michael J. Scholtes is an ordained minister in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Key Concepts:
He explains the negative voice most of us hear isn't us and that we should listen to the voice of God instead.
He gave his viewpoint on the best way to support a loved one who suffers from depression.
We dove into the dark water of his attempted suicide as a teenager.
And we considered churches who doesn't support people who fall short of God's glory.

We all have responsibilities.
But if we are not careful, we can do too much and forget about ourselves.
Without healthy boundaries, we sometimes say yes to things we don't want to do.
That's why it's essential to learn to stay in your lane.
You will know where your responsibilities end, and the other person begins.

Do you have a friend who knows what goes on in your life?
He knows what you feel and what your fears are.
All men need a Main Man to become vulnerable and share their secrets.
A Main Man is someone who listens without judging.
We understand ourselves as a man beginning with closeness to other men.

Most addicts are confused about life.
There is much growing up needed for us.
Because of our self-centeredness, dealing with everyday living is difficult.
Recovery is a process of maturing and learning how to respond to life.
Not that maturing is easy.
On the contrary, growing up is difficult, especially in the beginning.
But we grin and stay vigilant.
We change and grow up over here.
