Welcome to Glenn Robison’s Rapidly Rotating Records, bringing you vintage music to which you can’t *not* tap your toes, from rapidly rotating 78 RPM records of the 1920s and ’30s.
Do you know who this fellow is? He’s Sidney Easton. This photograph was taken during his career as a film actor and playwright in the 1940s, but before that he was a pianist, composer and vocalist and you’ll hear one of his tunes in the second segment of the show. In the final segment of the show you’ll hear three more of his compositions and a bit about his life and career. To open the show you’ll hear all about Emile Grimshaw and hear three of his his tunes, one even played by Emile Grimshaw’s Banjo Quartet. In bio, I mentioned that Grimshaw began manufacturing high end banjos, guitars and other instruments in 1933, but I didn’t mention that Grimshaw’s company continued to make instruments until 1980 and they were played by some of the most famous musicians in the world. Here’s a link to a page on the history of Grimshaw and the company. In other segments, you’ll hear the remaining three sides by Bill Brown and His Brownies, some tunes with reduplicative titles, and some songs about nests.
There’s lots of great music and interesting information, so set aside an hour with your favorite beverage and be magically transported back to a different–and we think better–musical era. Click on the audio player above to listen streaming online and/or download the show for listening at your convenience.
