International Bible conference teacher, Warren W. Wiersbe penned these words: “I enjoyed classical music. I often turn my radio to classical music while I am studying. I also enjoy going to concerts. Before A concert begins, I browse through the concert program to see what we will be played. I might read that the orchestra is going to play Tchaikovsky “Pathetique.” What if, Right in the middle of the program, I read that the choir is going to sing the local housing code? I would ask, what is going on? Choirs don’t sign the law. What musician would waste time putting the housing code to music?” Look at verses 54: “Thy statutes have been my songs in the house of my pilgrimage.” The psalmist says, “I sign the Law.”
This versus presents three different attitude toward life. To a, child, life is like a prison, with nothing but rules. To adolescents, life is a party. They don’t want statutes. But when we become mature adults, we realise that life is not a prison or a party. It’s a pilgrimage. We make this pilgrimage in obedience to God’s Word. I don’t know where I would have been during all these years of my life without the guidance of the Bible. God’s Word is not a burden; it’s a blessing. Duty becomes delight when you are yielded to the will of God.
I hope you’re not trying to run away from the will of God and turn life into one continual party. Realise that your life is a pilgrimage and that, as a pilgrim and a stranger in this world, you need the guidance of Scripture.
