As work continues on Interstate 17 north of Phoenix for fiber-optic cable installation and the Interstate 17 Improvement Project between Anthem Way and Sunset Point, motorists should expect several intermittent lane closures in the week ahead, beginning Sunday, March 20. Long before American settlers landed in Arizona, several indigenous peoples inhabited the region. Perhaps the most well-known indigenous groups in Central Arizona are the Yavapai. Other than a few bands that grew small plots of crops, the Yavapai were not farmers, but hunter-gatherers. Central Arizona's cuisine was also influenced by other indigenous nations farther to the North and South, bringing other types of food to the region. The Prescott Farmers Market (PFM) has been connecting area residents with local, straight-from-the-farm produce, eggs, meat, and flowers for nearly a quarter-century. The U.S. Senate unanimously approved a measure this week that would make daylight savings time permanent across the United States in 2023. The bipartisan bill, named the Sunshine Protection Act, would permanently extend daylight savings time (DST) from eight months of the year to the full 12 months. In 2021, the Prescott Valley Town Council adopted a new Strategic Plan to help set the vision for future improvements in operations and capital planning. During the week of February 27th, 2022, the Traffic Safety Section of the Prescott Police Department conducted extra traffic enforcement on Montezuma Street. Officers concentrated their efforts on this roadway looking for dangerous and reckless violations to include speeding violations. Officers stopped 72 vehicles which resulted in 97 traffic violations. The Prescott Police Department will continue traffic enforcement details throughout the city in an attempt to slow traffic down in order to reduce serious traffic crashes.
