Serious and important episode today. There seems to be new study after study now that shows mental health issues for kids are getting worse. Sadness, suicide, rates of depression, self-harm, and loneliness… all these stats seem to be moving in the wrong direction. And we don’t need the studies, we can see it with our own eyes when we look at the world our kids are growing up in. We see the news and the headlines, so we don’t need the studies – they just reinforce what we see all around us.

Why is this? Why does this seem to be getting worse, year after year? It’s a big topic, and there are lots of points to consider. That’s what I’m going to talk about today, so let’s get started.

When reading through the Gospels, one of the things that becomes very clear is just how much criticism Jesus took. He was criticized by the Pharisees, he was criticized by the Romans, by scribes, by teachers, by religious leaders, and even by some members of his own family. Jesus was criticized a lot. 

We're going to talk about that today, and a way to have a new perspective on this idea of criticizing Jesus, so let's get started.

Judge Not, and who are you to judge anyway? That seems to be the current summary of what people think the Bible, and Jesus, had to say about the topic of judgment. But is that true? How is it that Christian judgment so often leads to charges of hypocrisy? Should Christians ever judge? And what is discernment, how does that fit into this topic?

On today’s episode my guest, Nick Tallo shares his perspective on these giant issues of people living the Christian life, so let’s get started.

As a parent, kids have to navigate the cliques in the school. As an adult, we have our own groups of people that we have to navigate. And we figure out where the different groups hang out, and where we want to associate and hang out. Sometimes we make sure that we don’t hang out with the wrong people. But Jesus didn’t have that standard, he hung out with everyone, including the wrong people.

In today’s episode, I’m going to share some thoughts on the idea of hanging out with the wrong people, so let’s get started.

Too many Christians get too wrapped up debating and arguing over stuff that just isn’t important in the light of eternity. I’ve seen people get into heated debates over a person being baptized face first into the water or dipped back into the water. Really? Really? We’ve got to do better.

It’s so easy today to spend a minute on social media and get pulled into religious arguments, to end up down a rabbit hole where hours have gone by and you have no idea what just happened. It’s so easy to get tangled up in issues that ultimately don’t matter.

Today I’m going to share some thoughts on how we can avoid this situation, so let’s get started.

Last week I dug into some of the issues around the He Gets Us ad campaign. One of those issues is people being upset with the amount of money that the people behind the campaign are spending. It is reported to be a marketing campaign that will spend over $100 million dollars. Since then I have read a quote from one of the people behind the ad that they want to spend $1 billion by the time the whole global campaign has ended. On this episode, I’m going to focus on that one issue and share some thoughts about it, so let’s get started.

The Bible is the most translated, most read, and most well-known book in the history of mankind. But many people are intimidated by the Bible, and don’t know what the book is about or how it is structured, or how it can all be tied into one story.

In this episode my guest shares his thoughts on the Bible, provides great insight into some of the key questions about the Bible, and how this incredible book applies to our lives.

My guest today is Mike Teramano. Mike is originally from Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Clemson, South Carolina for school and has lived there ever since. He and his wife Terri have been married for 15 years with two children. Mike & Terri serve in their local church with a focus on discipleship - they are passionate about increasing their own and others' biblical IQ. They teach classes, connect new members with ministries in the church, host marriage workshops, and help run church operations. Mike is a Detective with a local police department having served over 15 years in law enforcement while Terri is a Nurse and Nurse Educator having practiced and taught for over 12 years. They enjoy sushi, they try to hike whenever life allows it, and will throw down on game night if challenged!

As you may have heard there was an ad during the Super Bowl from He Gets Us. They have been running ads for a while now about how Jesus understands us, about how Jesus can relate to what we’re going through, and about how He Gets Us.

And lots of people seem to be quite upset. Some are mad at the amount of money spent, it’s a campaign that will spend over $100M dollars. Some are annoyed at how the commercials have been put together. Some challenge the messages of the ads. Some have different problems entirely.

But others have praised this marketing campaign. So what’s the deal? Is this a horrible move, is it a waste of money, is it making fascism look benign, as Representative Ocasio-Cortez stated? Or is it great work? That’s the topic today, so let’s get started.

Taking verses out of context, in the Bible, is a big problem. People will read their own interpretation, they’ll look for a verse to say what they want it to say instead of reading it in the context of what it’s actually saying.
