Silhouettes JB Podcast

If you’re a music theory enthusiast or singer, this is YOUR episode.

Broadway legend Ron Melrose and music supervisor of JERSEY BOYS joins us as we dissect almost every note in the show.

Did you notice that “My Eyes Adored You” is playing at Mangio’s when Mary & Frankie first met? The song is playing as they fall in love it's also the song they break up to. Have you ever wondered why the orchestra uses children’s toys sounds under “I Can’t Give You Anything But Love” with Francine? We ask THOSE questions. Is that style or what?

Learn about his humble beginnings & the creative process of JB in 2004. (You’ll freak). Ron is the man who sped up the songs. The man who made some of the most iconic songs in music history even more memorable for generations to come. He’s also been “averting musical theatre emergencies since 1976,” per his email signature.

Enjoy. A’ Salud.

OLIVIA VALLI had a special 2-hour sit-down with us! As JERSEY BOYS runs in the family, Olivia is the first in Broadway history to play a direct relative — her beloved grandmother Mary.  Before her iconic JERSEY BOYS debut, she graduated with a BFA in musical theatre from Montclair State University and understudied Elphaba on the national tour of WICKED.

Daveed may or may not have seen her play Elphaba! Listen to find out! She’s also performed and sold out her own shows at 54 Below and Green Room 42.

While she is "a bunny on TV with a battery" like her grandfather Frankie, Olivia has made a name for herself with her own talents and strengths.  Olivia shares sentimental stories about her grandmother and her Aunt Francine. Olivia wants everyone to know her grandmother Mary had a huge heart and was loved by everyone she knew. Olivia lives a life of gratitude with her badass Jersey attitude.

During this episode, Olivia Valli shares her thoughts on hopes, dreams and life. She and Gia go OFF on how the Jersey Girls make the show RUN, and Olivia showed us that Italian girls don't play!

JERSEY BOYS veteran Nicolas Dromard  arranged a sit-down with us! How BLESSED are we!

Not only has Nic racked up the most performances as Tommy DeVito on Broadway, tour and at New World Stages, he’s also performed as Fiyero on the first national tour of WICKED and Bert in Mary Poppins on the national tour and in the closing cast on Broadway. Most recently, he played Billy Flynn in a regional production of CHICAGO at the Matlz Jupiter Theatre in FL!

Not to mention CLOSING the Broadway production of JERSEY BOYS as Tommy DeVito!

The man’s been booked since 1996, and he tells us about it!

Listen to this special episode where Nic tells us about

-his living room @superheroesinlove concerts with his wife Desiree

-tour life

-his WILD JB audition

-frosted tips

and

-the importance of regional theatre

P.S. He complimented Daveed’s hair and asked Gia to be his Mary Delgado in a production one day. Joke or not, we flipped. <3

We are SO grateful to Nic for joining us, and like Mary Poppins, we hope he returns.

“Everybody remembers it how they need to,” and “oh, what a night it was!”

JERSEY BOYS Norwegian Cruise Line native Michael Fasano (aka Michael FALSETTO) takes us through the ins and outs of playing Frankie Valli on the sea!

Daveed and Gia have been studying JERSEY BOYS for eight years, but it turns out we only know the “land shows!” Shame on us. Check out Michael’s fascinating insight into the NCL rehearsal process, his specific schedule and required stamina, an overview of SETA tours and more. He even walks us through how the creative team fit the show (or tenderly condensed JB) for NCL and how he has the energy to sing sing “Can’t Take My Eyes off of You” after midnight. (Could you imagine?)

We’re so grateful to Michael for joining us! Enjoy!!

**Read in a winter tone. :)** Daveed and Gia are extra giddy this episode talking about what all Jews and Italians do…Fanook, Sebastian Maniscalco and alcoholism. Join us as we begin to traverse the plains of the unconscious genius of the development of each Season and how they receive love. This will yield us results that justify our bewilderment, goosebumps and feelings of joy for eons to come. Everything’s copacetic. Right, Frankie? Let us know if you agree with our assessment and raise a glass to Sundays. A’ Salud. The Two Felons

We're back with episode 2!

In this episode, we sat down with Daveed's best friend Lukas Luna, who's a recent graduate of Rutgers Newark/New Jersey Institute of Technology, Pre-Med track, with a major in Neurobiology.

A big discovery of ours is that Jersey Boys, and music and theatre in general, is a big part of our culture and brings everyone together.

We cover everything from who our favorite season is and what that says about us, to why we keep coming back over and over again to see the show, or why we keep watching the movie. To keep finding those nuances, those ideas and themes that keep us beggin for more.

IT'S THE SERIES PREMIERE! Put your red dress on and get ready to go back to the old neighborhood! We sat down with the "big man in town" — resident Frankie Valli at New World Stages and our good friend, Aaron De Jesus.

We pulled the curtain back and talked about all the things that made us want to start this show in the first place. Everything from the famed Frankie Camp, the mysterious lighting blackout, mythical JERSEY BOYS Bible, racial sensitivity in JERSEY BOYS, and of course a profound appreciation for Nick Massi's character.

Since his JERSEY BOYS debut in the Vegas company in 2012, Aaron has racked up over 1500 performances as Joe Pesci, and got a well-deserved promotion to the titular role of Frankie Valli where we're always "beggin" for more.  He's just too good to be true!

Testing, testing, is this thing on? Hi! We're Daveed Ben-Arie and Gia Doxey, and are *arguably* the biggest Jersey Boys fans ever! And we both have absolutely nothing to do during this quarantine. So...half of the two us (meaning Daveed) never having made a podcast before, we decided this was the best time to foray into the unknown! We scoured everywhere and were surprised to find no Jersey Boys related podcasts. With special guests from the show and friends who enjoy talking as much as we do, we will strive to give you the upmost top-notch Jersey Boys content you didn't even know you needed. Enjoy!
