It’s finally game week and we couldn’t be more excited. Before we get you ready for Ohio State vs. Akron, we start this week’s show with the latest news out of camp, including the latest Buckeyes to get the black stripes removed from their helmets. We also discussed Nick McLarty winning the starting punting job in preseason camp.

The NCAA has delivered its official notice of allegations to Michigan and we discuss the slowness of that process, why we shouldn’t expect any punishment to happen this season, and the potential for the Wolverines to qualify for repeat offender status.

College football started over the weekend with Week 0, and we quickly touched on Georgia Tech’s upset of Florida State in Ireland and an entertaining game between Montana State and New Mexico.

We conclude our predictions for the 2024 Big Ten final standings with a look at which teams we think will finish in the conference’s top half. Our lists were similar, but we did have a few slight disagreements. We agreed on the top two finishers, however, and you can let us know if you think we got it right or wrong.

Finally, we looked toward Saturday’s matchup between the Buckeyes and the Akron Zips. We provide our picks for the players we think will have standout games (our “picks to click”), and do our best to predict the final score. We don’t expect a close game.

We’re finally back to our weekly football season schedule here at the Silver Bullets Podcast. It’s been a long offseason, but there’s plenty to talk about.

We start with Ohio State’s starter at quarterback. Ryan Day is not going to let the quarterback battle spill into the regular season in 2024, as he has named Will Howard his guy to lead the offense. We discuss the ramifications of that decision and how we expect that to inform the OSU attack for the upcoming year.

Howard wasn’t the only player making news since our last show. The Buckeyes have named four captains for the 2024 campaign as well. We talk about whether the right or wrong choices were made both in the personnel involved and the number. We also have a new recipient of the Block O jersey and we feel like it’s a good choice.

Several more Buckeyes shed their black stripes and are now “official.” Kourt Williams was forced to take a medical retirement from the game, which is the unfortunate news in this episode. We wish Williams the best of luck in the next step of his journey.

Finally, we take a look at the bottom of the Big Ten. We can’t do our usual divisional ranking predictions this season, as there are divisions in the conference no longer. With 18 teams to rank, it would make for quite a long episode to go from bottom to top, so we’re starting at the bottom and rating the teams that we think will finish in positions 10 through 18 in the Big Ten. Next week, we’ll finish things up by making our bold picks for the teams that will finish in the conference’s top nine positions. As always, feel free to tell us what you think we got right or wrong. We’ve got a lot to discuss on this episode of the Silver Bullets Podcast at the end of an eventful January. We start with a discussion of the biggest Big Ten news of the month, as Jim Harbaugh has departed Ann Arbor and will no longer have to face the consequences of his actions. He’s even taking the assistant most likely to share in the penalties.

We break down the possible ramifications awaiting Michigan when the NCAA investigation is complete and discuss the possibility that Sherrone Moore could also face sanctions and may not be being set up for success. Who is to say which base he was actually born on and how he thought he got there? We are to say, and we do.

Ohio State has made some coaching staff changes since the season ended and we run through those and discuss some the changes that may still come.

After talking about the coaches, we turn our attention to the players. Ohio State got tons of good news this month from players deciding to return for the 2024 season. Aside from a few guys, almost everyone who could come back is going to do so. Plus, there are some big-time transfers coming to Columbus is well.

In addition, Ohio State has a new athletic director, and we touch on some of the pros and cons of Ross Bjork’s appointment to the position. Sure, he’s the guy who gave Jimbo Fisher a ridiculous extension, but he’s also a guy who can help Ohio State get to the next level with fundraising for NIL issues.

Finally, there are a lot of incoming freshmen enrolling early this year, which is exciting because it’s an excellent recruiting class.
