The Cooma Creek and Bombala River look like they'll miss nearly all the rain set to come through the Snowy Mountains in the coming days.

Up to 100 millimetres of precipitation is forecast for Alpine areas .. with snow expected to fall each day except Sunday in the Mountains.

There is major flooding on the Snowy river over the border in Victoria .. impacting communities including Orbost.

The Bureau of Meteorology advises MAJOR FLOODING IS OCCURRING AT COOMA. Heavy rainfall in the Cooma area has caused rapid creek rises and major flooding at Cooma. Rainfall is expected to ease today, and creek levels are currently peaking. Major flooding is occurring along the Cooma Creek. The Cooma Back Creek at SMEC is currently peaking around 2.15 metres with major flooding. The Cooma Creek at Koolaroo is currently peaking around 4.0 metres with major flooding.

There are minor flood alerts in effect for stretches of the Snowy and Upper Murray Rivers.

The Bureau has cancelled the flood watch for the Upper Murrumbidgee to Cooma Creek as well as the Tumut River.

The Bombala River peaked on Saturday morning just over the minor flood level .. and has since receded.

But up to 35 mils of rain is forecast for Bombala tomorrow.
