What if rather than trying to get God's "stamp of approval" on our plans for our life we instead went to Him first to see what He wants for our life?  Because my first desire is to make His desires my desires, so before I choose anything I have to ask Him what he wants for me.

The brothers eventually had to deal with the past because God has the keys to the past, the present, and the future. Because we most often learn though pain, God also deals with Jacob's past. 

Sometimes it's hard to see Jesus is making us look more like Him and less like us because all we see is the pain.

Being content.  There's a famous verse of Scripture that is taken wildly out of context at football games and job interviews and many more places. We get wrapped up seeking the things we desire more than seeking the things we really need.  Paul is in prison, and on his way to trial, and yet is able to say, "Jesus, you're all I need."
