T. S. Eliot is arguably THE poetic voice of the early 20th century, and is a perennial favorite of mine. His justly famous FOUR QUARTETS mixes the brilliance of his early poetry with the wisdom of age in his post-conversion Christian work. Eliot considered it his masterpiece, and it was certainly important in his winning the Nobel Prize. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the Christian Atheist finds in this Christian convert a thinker and a poet of profound voice and inspiration. This is the fourth of his Four Quartets,  "Little Gidding." On June 12, 1987 President Ronald Reagan delivered this famous speech in West Berlin in front of the "Iron Curtain" separating Eastern and Western Europe in the Cold War. "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" is one of the most famous lines in any presidential address, appearing about halfway through the remarks. The Berlin wall fell in 1989, after Reagan left office. The speech is filled with classic Reagan and with historic references that those who lived those years will remember and appreciate, and those who didn't should know about.
