God calls out to Egypt to remind them that though they are powerful, a day of calamity is coming. But His grace still reaches out to them and the promise of restoration is given.

A prophecy about Damascus, and by extension, Syria.

Prophecies against Philistia and Moab, two surrounding nations that warred with Israel.

And again God promises that although destruction is coming, it will not signal the end of this nation, the apple of God's eye!

What has God promised He would do in the kingdom to come? Isaiah 11 gives us some ideas. The response to that is pure praised (chapter 12).

But Israel was still to face their fiercest enemy ... Babylon.

The promise of the coming Messiah is told again to Israel. They are reminded that God will return as the Root of Jesse. A kingdom is coming of everlasting righteousness that ALL will be blessed by!

The Lord may choose to use any nation He desires to accomplish His will but woe to that nation when they forget the Lord. The Lord warns the Assyrians of this very fact! He promises that no matter what comes upon Israel, He will redeem them!

God promises joy ... BUT ... He is displeased with His people. These are not mutually exclusive. His displeasure results when we willingly disobey because God knows we have been created to function in a specific way ... HIS way and chaos and pain and suffering ALWAYS results when we walk away from Him!

What would the signs of the coming Messiah? Could Isaiah be trusted? How would He show Himself to be faithful with the Assyrian army ready to attack Jerusalem? Would there be ANY future? God would use local "current events" to show Himself faithful so that people would understand and trust prophecies that were centuries away from being fulfilled!.
