    Title: Poolside with Brett
Subtitle: Brett Cornell Mystery, Book 1
    Author: David D. D'Aguanno
    Narrator: Travis Henry Carter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 46 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-30-17
    Publisher: David D. D'Aguanno
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 9 votes
Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, Modern Detective
    Publisher's Summary:
Private detective Brett Cornell believes that he's never had it so good.
He's been on a winning streak playing poker in private games being held in the back room of one of his favorite night spots. He's recently been "discovered" by an exotic-looking beauty who specializes in homemade adult films.
In addition, he's been hired to track down a certain missing husband and bring him back home to his anxious wife. His life, however, takes a sudden turn for the worse when he opens the trunk of his car one evening and finds the missing husband's murdered corpse stashed away inside of it. A set-up for a murder rap?
Set in the late 1980s, Poolside with Brett is the first in a series of novels featuring the tough and crass "unscrupulous bastard" himself - a rude, wise-cracking private detective who happens to be a hugely successful ladies' man, thanks largely to what he immodestly refers to as his "Adonis-like features".
In a tale involving murder, blackmail, an unexpected suicide, and other assorted acts of violence and deceit, Brett learns the hard way that there's a steep price to be paid for being such an unscrupulous bastard - and listeners may very well feel that he gets exactly what he deserves, and more!
    Members Reviews:
Poolside with Brett is an outstanding listen....
Would you consider the audio edition of Poolside with Brett to be better than the print version?
I've only listened but the voice acting was spectacular.
What did you like best about this story?
I liked the place in time shout outs and apparent homage to classic mystery writers of a bygone era.
Have you listened to any of Travis Henry Carters other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not heard this narrator before but thought he was well suited for Poolside with Brett
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
While I would have liked to have listened to the book in one sitting it was ideal for workouts and varied tasks though some of the rougher moments made it inappropriate for the school commute.
    Any additional comments?
Poolside with Brett was well written and well voice. It is a bit blue at moments and somewhat a product of its time but with suspension of disbelief an acceptance that Brett is a douchewaffle who is a bit delusional about the legendary status of his man-beastliness, it a very good listen.
    Private detective Bretts first adventure
I loved this book so much because Brett is the type of character that you love to hate. He thinks he's Gods gift to women everywhere and his cockiness works so well with the story.
The narrator was perfect for this story. He really pulled off what I would think a misogynist from Rhode Island would sound like. His narration of the other character was great as well and he really made the story great!
Overall the story is fun and interesting. Anyone who isn't afraid of some cursing or vulgar content will love this story! I just got the second book and can't wait to start listening!
    Emphasize the unscrupulous bastard
By the synopsis' own description, to call the main character an unscrupulous bastard is really an understatement. To best characterize him, i'd say it is a Jersey Boys meets ultra-
    misogynist.

    Enjoyable Mystery
    Any additional comments?
While "The Guilty: Book 3" isn't the *best* mystery/thriller book I've listened to, it also holds it's own pretty well. This tale involves some bad players of the vampire type variety and also your good-old-fashioned rich, power hungry jerks. The only remotely strong female characters in this book were empowered sexually and in no other way, which I do not super love. Overall, I'd give the story a 7/10 and I probably wouldn't recommend it to my friends only because I think there are better stories to be read!
I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.
    Fast Paced Ride
Did Andrew B. Wehrlen do a good job differentiating all the characters? How?
I definitely knew when the female characters had dialogue versus the male characters. However, the majority of the time all the male characters sounded alike...fast tempo in speech and a little cocky. The listener eventually learns to pay attention to who is in the scene and gets the gist. I gave the story and performance 3.5 stars. It could have been a fun performance if Mr. Wehrlen varied the tempo and style of the various main characters.
    Any additional comments?
Mr. Zandri creates a fast paced thriller. He builds a wide variety of cast members to keep the story moving...a career-motivated blogger, a smooth detective, a couple of rich and powerful entrepreneurs, a silver-spooned playboy, a street smart/newly released from prison and 'looking-out' for his neighborhood informant and, of course, several curvy and sexy women. Mr. Zandri will keep you guessing until the end.
Good thriller with a likable main character
Vincent Zandri's "The Guilty" is a pretty good thriller starring the enigmatic Jake Marconi, and is one of a series of books featuring PI Jack Marconi as the main character. You can read what the story is about from the book description. I'll have to say that this was a good, solid story. There were a few parts where things seemed to drag on a little here and there, but then I'd find myself caught right back up in the story again. I'd have to say that having listened to quite a few of Mr. Zandri's books in the past, you can really tell that he continues to hone his craft as time goes on and keeps on writing books that are getting better and better.
Andrew Wehrlen did another solid job with the narration. He's narrated other books by Mr. Zandri, including the Chase Baker series, and I'm always more than happy to listen to anything that he's narrated. He has the perfect tone for a male lead that's kind of a badass and a bit cocky. A few people complained about the narration for the females.

The new Death in Paradise mystery
Two dead bodies. A family of suspects. One grumpy detective.
Reluctantly stationed on the sweltering Caribbean island of Saint-Marie, Detective Inspector Richard Poole dreams of cold winds, drizzly rain and a pint in his local pub.

Wenig später erschüttert der Fund einer Leiche den Küstenort Trégastel. Publisher's Summary:
A young man is found in a riverside park, his head bashed in with a rock. The only clue to his identity is an admission stamp for the local gay club. DS Lucy Black is called in to investigate.
As Lucy delves into the community, tensions begin to rise as the man's death draws the attention of the local gay rights group to a hate-speech pastor who, days earlier, had advocated the stoning of gay people and who refuses to retract his statement. Things become more complicated with the emergence of a far-right group targeting immigrants in a local working-class estate.
As their attacks escalate, Lucy and her boss, Tom Fleming, must also deal with the building power struggle between an old paramilitary commander and his deputy that threatens to further enflame an already volatile situation.
Hatred and complicity abound in the days leading up to the Brexit vote in McGilloway's new Lucy Black thriller. Compelling and current, Bad Blood is expertly crafted and acutely observed.
    Critic Reviews:
"Brian McGilloway blends timeless values with ripped-from-the-headlines issues to produce some of the very best crime fiction being written today." (Lee Child)
"Set just before the Brexit vote, this book explores important questions of community and identity. McGilloway shies away from easy answers; instead he gives us a tense and beautifully-written crime novel that takes the reader into lives that aren't seen often enough." (Ann Cleeves)

What did you love best about Red Earth?
George Kuch for beginners! I'm not sure if he can tear a phonebook in half, or even still find one but he could make even a phonebook interesting to listen to if he reads it!
And Joel Canfield's world of Max Bowman. this is the third installment and I have had the pleasure of listening and reviewing each of them.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Max, he is profane, funny and gets the job done!
What does George Kuch bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
George! He makes everything he works on come to life. Laid back, or forceful, he is comfortable at both. A clear speaking voice, and it's clear that he prepares when he takes on a project. That shows!
All of this and he can ... sing and do magic tricks and juggle!
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Laugh and just darn entertained! Hurry up and get Book Four written and recorded!
    Any additional comments?
BE AWARE: THERE IS LOTS OF POTTY MOUTHIN' AS HAS BEEN THE CASE IN THE PREVIOUS BOOKS IN THE SERIES! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED IF THIS TYPE OF LANGUAGE OFFENDS YOU!
In my opinion, this is well worth the Audible credit and listening time!
Thanks for the opportunity to listen and offer my opinions on this work!
A review copy was gifted to me at no charge. In return, I am happy to provide an honest review. Also at no charge.
    what a book!
Joel Canfield is a new author to me, while George Kuch is a narrator whom I've listened to before several times. I loved the performance of this book! There is humor and suspense in this book. I thought the ending was somewhat of a cliffhanger, which I do not like. Warning this book has language that some might find offensive. I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, narrator, and or publisher.
    Max Bowman is the man!
    Any additional comments?
I fell in love with Max Bowman in book one. We married and had kids in book two. With book three, we bought the picket fence, got the dog and joined the PTA. I love this character!!!
First off, George Kuch NAILS Max Bowman. The narration is practically Oscar worthy (or whatever they give narrators.)
Then, the story. Blew. Me. Away.
There is so much that happens in this listen that I think you benefit most from having listened to the first two books. Even without that though, what a story. And that ending!!!! I did NOT see that coming.
Now I'm just sitting hear wondering how long I have to wait for the fourth book.

    Publisher's Summary:
A spellbinding tale of deceit, betrayal, dark choices, and murder that reviewers describe as "gripping", "full of suspense and thrills", and "hard to put down". Inspired by a shocking true story, Come What May, the debut book in the new Ben Malone detective mystery series, is a high-stakes thrill ride through the gritty underbelly of the City of Angels.
Hollywood Division detective Ben Malone is caught up in a run of bad luck. The worst of it, his unfortunate entanglement in three separate fatal on-duty shootings in less than a year at a time when activists are protesting the use of deadly force by police and provoking riots all over the country. The spate of shootings has his LAPD superiors spooked and questioning his judgment. Is Malone too quick to use deadly force? Relieved from street duty, Malone is sequestered in Robbery-Homicide Division's Cold Case Homicide Section to keep him under wraps while he undergoes department-mandated psychiatric evaluation. His work-related problems compounded by a vindictive ex-wife intent on bleeding him dry financially sends Malone into a spiral of depression that soon has him drinking too much in the attempt to cope.
Initially resentful over his reassignment to the cold case section, Malone's attitude starts to change when his new partner, Jaime Reyes, introduces him to the files of a cold as ice, 23-year-old unsolved murder case. The decades-old murder doesn't fit the unit's criteria for reopening a cold case for active investigation, but the more Malone studies the case, the more obsessed he becomes with trying to solve it. He and Reyes embark on an off-the-books investigation that predictably creates even more problems. Especially for Malone. Pushback from powerful forces both inside and outside the LAPD determined to keep the truth buried with the corpse gets intense. But even when things get personal, Malone becomes only more committed to solving the case, come what may.
