Singer Songwriters Face Impossible Odds

We sing and write about things a lot of people don’t like or want to hear.

But…so what.

Most other Christians in this world face the same obstacles. If you’re a Christian, and you feel like the world is against you, guess what? You’re right.

Ok…that’s a problem…but let’s focus on solutions and our Creator.

In this world you won’t be friends with everyone. In fact, the majority of this world will even hate you. But Jesus said “if they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.” We’re not better than Him, and if He is for us…who cares who’s against us.

Be strong. Be of good courage. Be joyful. Be willing. And be ready to give a reason for the hope that lies within. Remember…We Win.

And that’s the view from a singer songwriter in Colorado. The views and opinions are those of this blog and its members.

Technology is so cool. With my iPhone, which I keep in a small pocket on the side of my jeans, I capture video and photos of things I want to remember.

Then, I can simply add a song I wrote and create a movie…which I can share with anyone or everyone within hours of filming the footage.

Nice.

I just spent the past hour and a half putting this fun little video together. The song is called “Feed Me”. It was actually played on KBCO in Boulder, Colorado back in 1989 when I wrote it. They featured it in a segment they called “Home Grown”. Little did they know what they were playing.  Anyway…hope you get a kick out of it…

Hey you. Is your name in the book of Life…

It’s ironic to me…automobile insurance is mandatory in America. You can’t drive your vehicle around for long without risking your driver’s license if you’re caught without auto insurance. Why? Because “they” know sooner or later the unexpected will happen, and you won’t be able to pay for it if you’re not insured.

So…why is a writer-singer-illustrator talking about the irony of mandatory auto insurance? See, it’s like this…driving a car runs the risk of an accident, and if it’s expensive, you won’t have to worry because insurance will “cover it”. Well, living your life runs the risk of dying. In fact, it’s not a possibility…it’s a guarantee. Yet so many people go through their whole life without “afterlife insurance”. They don’t even bother to look into it. They may just be putting it off until it’s too late. And then there’s no way to get it anymore.

I happen to believe, not by blind faith but by overwhelming, compelling evidence, there’ll be an afterlife. And there’ll be two possible places to spend eternity. I’ve already gotten my insurance. It wasn’t mandatory, and I don’t have to pay the premiums…which is great because I could never afford them. No, the premium is paid in full, as a gift to me specifically, and all I have to do is believe.

My suggestion is simple: look into it. That’s all. But don’t take my word for anything. And if I’m wrong about this one thing, please show me. The one thing is this: I’m saved from eternal separation from God, my Creator. Here’s how it happened. There really was a man named Jesus. He really did die for my sins. He really did rise from the dead. And He really is God the Son. And He really does love me that much. All he asks from me is to believe it. So, I do. I’m saved. It’s nice knowing I have insurance just in case death occurs. Because it will.

I got my name in the “book of life”, and I can celebrate forever. You should “(get your name in the) Book of Life”.

This singer songwriter describes music as an aural expression of life.

Tightly woven into my life, God gave me this great and constantly compelling gift of music. It’s been my constant companion even through the years when I had no human constant companion. It has also been my reminder that I’m “wonderfully made”. Music brings me great joy, and I want a song in my heart until this heart of mine no longer beats…and forever after that. I hope and pray I’m a singer songwriter forever.

I’m not a doctor, and I don’t play one on TV or the internet. But being a singer songwriter is sort of like being a heart surgeon. The right kind of song can soften the hardest heart. And just think about that for a second. Something you can’t even see or touch can touch hearts. If that doesn’t prove to you there’s a God who loves us, then you’re in for a hell of a future. And I mean that in the most literal sense of the word, hell.

Don’t let your heart be hardened by the lies of this world. If you even begin to feel that happening, try listening to some music. Not just those annoying beats, on the radio, trying to pass themselves off as music. But real music. Try Beethoven or Bach or Haydn. They also gave credit to their Creator for the gift of music. Like in this quote from Haydn:

“Never was I so devout as when I composed The Creation. I knelt down each day to pray to God to give me strength for my work.When I was working on The Creation I felt so impregnated with Divine certainty, that before sitting down to the piano, I would quietly and confidently pray to God to grant me the talent that was needed to praise Him worthily.”

In their presence, I’m just a humble singer songwriter. But when it comes to loving the Lord, I count myself at least an equal.

When you decide to take the plunge, you should commit to it with everything you’ve got. Most people go all out on gowns, tuxedos, flowers, and video. But one place to truly stand out is your own wedding song. Put your special story to music, and give it the special spark most other couples won’t have.

Lots of people fall in love and agree to remember their “special song”. But it’s almost always the same song thousands of other couples claim as their own special song. Where’s the coolness in that?

If you’re in the planning stages of getting married, take things to the next level with your own one-of-a-kind song. Yes, a wedding song, personalized for your unique story, will add a considerable amount to the cost of your special day. But it’ll last a lifetime. And that’s more than you can say for the gowns, tuxedos, and flowers.

Yes, it’s self-serving of me to talk about custom wedding songs. But since music is what I do…and I still haven’t kicked my habit of eating every day…I gotta serve self and sell stuff.
